Yesterday I wrote a diary (
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/5/15/152151/113#13) about how I was losing hope regarding no real action being taken regarding this corrupt administration, and how I was losing hope in man because I don't hear any voices of opposition proposing concrete action. Today I read about this however, and it renewed my hope in mankind. I wish we could come together like this in America to protest the Bush agenda.
Eradicating world poverty to me is THE issue that mankind needs to become involved in. This is an issue that effects not only all of our lives but also would be a step in fighting terrorism, and in bringing the hope, joy, and peace to the world that is so desperately needed.
It is events like this that renew my faith. People coming together across the globe for a common good cause. That is what it's all about. I can't go to Edinburgh, but I can purchase a white wristband and hope others who read this find some way to become involved in this most important of causes.
Excerpt from story linked below;
A series of protest marches in Paris, New York and Berlin among others will culminate in the Edinburgh rally when tens of thousands will encircle Edinburgh to create a 'human wristband'.
What you can do
· Go to the website and join the campaign at makepovertyhistory.org.
· Write to Tony Blair and describe why it is important that the Prime Minister maximises his influence at the G8 Summit. Contact details are on the website.
· Get a white wristband. The campaign website lists shops and groups stocking the item.
· Travel to Edinburgh on 2 July and join tens of thousands on a Make Poverty History rally.
· Persuade local shops, restaurants, bars and newsagents to back the campaign.
· Organise a landmark or building to be smothered in a giant Make Poverty History wrapper on 1 July, White Band Day.
