The Honest Speech Bush Should Give Today

Sun Oct 08, 2006 at 11:59:19 PM PDT

My Fellow Americans,

Today, America faces a new threat.  A dictator from North Korea, Kim Jong Il, has just tested a nuclear weapon.  This is a real and clear threat to Americans.  This has happened on my watch.  It was a failure of imagination, a failure of our policy, like Katrina, like Iraq and Afghanistan, like 9/11.

There has been a large partisan divide in America, the space between Americans has grown.  We need to remember the lessons of 9/11 and remember how we came together in the face of great danger on that day.  This administration has dropped the ball again and we need the country to come together to elect new leadership that is capable of keeping the country safe.  That will not be so busy hiding scandals and protecting themselves that they let the great troubles of our day simmer until they bubble over.  We need to come together and vote for the future of this country.

There can be no doubt that this Presidency is a failure.  Now is not the time for blame.  In thirty days, Americans go to the polls and have a choice: Is this the path we should be on?  Where does this path lead?  If you are concerned about where we are and how we got here, you must vote not with your party, but for change.  You must vote for oversight and real accountability.  Taking responsibility cannot end with speaking the words.  It must be followed with responsible action.  This Congress and this administration has failed to keep its promise to keep America safe.  In 30 days, we must be held accountable.

Thank you, and may God bless America.

The only way that Bush will hold a "let's be honest" talk is if the Democrats take control of either the House or Senate.  At that point, he will know that he has to have bi-partisian cooperation in order to both salvage what he can of his presidency/legacy and possibly placate those that might testify against his administration in hearings.

When Bush gives his speech today, he will talk about healing partisan divides, about moving together in a unified way, and (of course) about 9/11.  I want an alternate version of it up first.  I'd be even happier if the Democrats could find a camera and give Bush's speech first.

Bush and honest in the same sentence.  My monitor melted, and I had to get my back-up out of the garage.

and did you bring enough to share?

Should give? sure - though I prefer Meteor Blades as his new speech writer.

Likelihood of anything coming close to that coming out of his mouth? My guess is the odds are roughly the same as his agreeing to give an exclusive interview to a panel consisting of Keith Olbermann, Jon Stewart, and Stephen Colbert.

    Thanks for playing.

Forgive me if my comments seem trollish, but I think there are more productive ways to address the serious issues facing us due to the incompetence of this administration. There are also more entertaining ways to try and escape from them, even if only for a moment.

    •  The point of this is that we know what speech (0+ / 0-)

Bush is going to give.  We should have ours out first so that we don't look like we're reacting.  You've still got a chance to play, though.  Write the Bush speech with truth included and get it out there.

I don't know why you fuckers voted for me.  I was even more surprised than you when they told me that I came close enough to steal the election.

I've been a failure all of my life.  My parents made me that way.  And society too.

But, I've got a winning personality, and I became the president of the biggest fraternity ever.  Cool.  Losing New Orleans?  Not Cool.  Good thing my dad lives in Texas, because if he was in D.C. I'd be in a world of shit.  But, even though he knew and you knew I was  loser, you still voted for me.

I would have made a good night manager at a Chi Chi's, or a greeter at a casino.  But, NO, you decided to make me President of the United States.  I don't even know how to spell president.

Look, I've made enough money for me and my friends to last 1000 lifetimes.  So, if I go down in history as the worst president ever, fuck it, I'm RICH.  You can straighten out that mess in Iraq.  Halliburton has skimmed off all of the cream, so it's just a carcass now.  You can pick the bones.

Fuck off, America.  I'm worthless as shit, but I'm president.  And even though only 33% of the people like me, you ain't gonna do shit to me.  So there.

Praise Jesus, and pass the plate around.

    Good night.
