Oh Reunion Arena, the once state of the art building built at the southwest corner of Downtown Dallas. You've given us so much.
You gave us hope of an NBA Franchise, our lowly, then mighty, then lowly again Dallas Mavericks. You gave us great players to root for, like Brad Davis and Rolando Blackman.
You gave us concerts, bringing in Metallica, U2, and every other stadium act you could think of. You provided me a venue to watch Robert Plant and Jimmy Page pretend they were Led Zeppelin again in 1995. That was nice. Thanks for that.
Your draw convinced Norm Green to move the 1991 Campbell Conference Champion Minnesota North Stars to Dallas for the 1993-94 season. Thanks big time for that.
We never would have experienced the joy of winning the 1999 Stanley Cup if it hadn't been for you, Reunion Arena
(note - yes I know the Stars won the cup in Buffalo. Yes it was a goal. And even if it wasn't a goal, Dallas dominated that game and would have killed you clowns in Game 7 anyway)
You broke our hearts, too, Reunion Arena, when the following year you granted a Stanley Cup ceremony to the wrong team.
Times have changed. You've grown old. Many said you couldn't compete anymore. The City of Dallas agreed to replace you with a newer model, the American Airlines Center... relegating you to lower ticket events, like tractor pulls and third tier wrestling stops.
But you still have purpose, as thousands of Katrina Evacuees can attest. Thanks for your humanity
But you're gonna give us ONE MORE FUN time before we bury you forever.
George W. Bush will be at Reunion Arena on Monday night. The night before the election. This is reminiscent of 2004 when Bush spent the night before the election talking to his mindless followers at SMU.
Anyway - Dallas Dems are getting together for a big time hoo-rah. Protest plans are out there, I don't happen to have them with me (how's that for a prepared diary?) But what a better way to spend your Monday night than protesting the President in the shadow of the stadium that gave us so much, only to be shed aside like yesterday's garbage.

Event is from 4PM to around 8PM, but may last longer -- depending. Meet in the Ferris Plaza across from Union Station.
The DART rail line has a stop close to Reunion if you don't want to drive BTW.
