Whew! I'm feeling pretty good about Santorum's booting-cautiously still, but I am pretty darned confident in Santorum's Defeat, which allows me a little time to stick my big nose into Ct.
"All politics is local," in this year and in this climate, seems an obsolete paradigm. Further, there is no race that compels me as a newly national-minded Democrat as the Connecticut Senate race, where Joe Lieberman has disgraced the standards of my party to serve himself.
I try to keep up, but I am still absent of any firm notion for why the heck a single Democrat in CT. would pull the lever for a man who has not only selfishly abandoned the party electoral process. Worse, it perplexes me to no end trying to figure out why any Democrat, whether moderate or centrist would find his blind support for Bush's perpetual failure or his political absenteeism from war votes of late a reason to re-elect him.
That whole "seniority" argument is a sham. From where I sit, should he win, I will be writing letters to the leadership urging them to strip him of any seniority he has. As will millions of us "nosy bodies" outside of Connecticut.
His claims of being a "Democratic Independent" are even more of a sham. Since 1998, he has helped to instill a demonic characterization of Democrats, including Bill Clinton.
The fact is, Joe Lieberman is Joe Lieberman. He supports Joe Lieberman. He is for Joe Lieberman. He wants to uplift Joe Lieberman. He has "brought money home" for Joe Lieberman...
I was hoping that Kos was going to suggest this: I predict that the last 72 hours of the election will be hours that Joe Lieberman is helped by the fabled GOP GOTV program, which, if I am right, will clearly label Joe Lieberman as what he truly is.
It's clear that Mr. Lamont needs our help now more than ever. I don't think that I'll admire a candidate or his campaign more than I do Ned's for a great long while. Sure, he may have made a mistake or two, but overall, he has shown us what our government should emulate. Therefore, I am urgently hopeful that he is victorious on Tuesday.
While I don't believe the polls in Ct. because of some ignored variables (ticket layout, who is energized and who is not, etc...) I think that it would be helpful for all of us "nosies" to step in and write letters to the editors of Connecticut newspapers in support of Ned.
This race has everything to do with the constituents nationwide (IMHO.) Further, this race asks the question: "Will you license incumbents to abandon your party for reelection purposes?" Most importantly, this race defines our solidarity as a party. Therefore, we must urge our friends in Connecticut to understand that a vote for Joe Lieberman is a vote against the Democratic Party.
Click here for a list of CT. newspapers. Please take a moment to write a letter to the editor in support of Ned Lamont.
Who knows, maybe it's a stupid idea, I've had stupider ones (damn you 7th grade woodshop crossbow!) I just really want to help.
Once again, I wish Ned Lamont the very best for Tuesday. It isn't often that I am as impressed with a candidate as I am with him. Worst case- I am grateful for his effort if not simply for presence, which is a bright light in this horrible national darkness.
:)
