After I posted my diary yesterday on how telling off Tom Davis (R-VA 11th District) and posting about it here apparently
got me onto the TSA watch list, I realized that I left something important out. On reflection, it deserves its own diary anyway.
My fiancé and I were flying home from a trip to Columbus, OH on Oct. 23. As we joined the boarding line, I spotted a man wearing a Sherrod Brown button.
I said, "Sir, good luck to your candidate. We're not from Ohio, but we know who he is and we're rooting for him."
He beamed at us. "Thanks! He's my brother."
We continued to discuss the outlook for Democrats while we boarded and picked the conversation up again when we deplaned as if there had been no pause for the flight in between. He wanted to know where we were from (DC area), how our local races were looking, anything we could tell him. I told him what I knew and mentioned my close encounter with Davis (for the full story, follow the link above). He was aghast, shaking his head and sighing, "That's so typical." I could but agree.
Mr. Brown -- I never did catch his first name -- is deeply involved in his brother's campaign and rattled off reams of stats and percentages and trend lines for races all over the country. It all boiled down to things looking better and better every day. But the money quote out of everything he told us was this:
"If Allen goes down, the Senate will flip."
I love the feeling of cold chills running down my back while a great big grin spreads across my face in the afternoon, oh my yes. I'd been hoping as much, but to hear someone in such a good position to know say so was just terrific.
So now you've heard it, too. If that's what you want, get out there and help make it happen. See you at the phone bank.
