So many examples of George W. Bush's and the Republican Congress' utter incompetence, complete hypocrisy, and blatant corruption have come down "the tubes" this week, were I to rely on these stories for nourishment, you'd need a crane to hoist me out of my bedroom.
The (further) revelations of such criminal recklessness should serve as a stark eye-opener to the independent and conservative voters nationwide. Thus, I urge everyone equipped with a keyboard, a phone, or 2 tin cans tied together with a string to get cracking.
Focus on ensuring that your fellow Dems are absolutely-positively going to the polls, indeed; but please take a generous amount of time speaking to your Conservative and
especially your Independent friends. For, it is these two groups that are the key to winning many races.
I spoke with my Born Again Christian uncle and his family today. Rather than create an argument, I asked him pointed questions about the President; the Congress; the war, etc. I allowed him to exert his loyalist muscle before I replied with my facts about his party and its elected members, especially the President. I showed him (from what he would consider journalistic sites) how the President, Rick Santorum, and John Negroponte had actually posted directions on how to build a nuclear weapon on a government website that his taxes paid for.
Rather than debate his misguided prejudice against Gay Americans, I explained to him the hypocrisy of the Republican "anti-gay" campaign. Further, I reminded him that Christ spent his time with the "outcasts" of his era and opposed the kings who had sought to remove them from society. Lastly, reminding him that according to his religion, it is not for him to pass judgment.
Just as this was happening, the supreme leader of his group of churches fell. I said, "fuck Mark Foley, look at this!"
I went on and on about hundreds of things. Then I realized that most of the things I was talking about happened this week, so I made a point to say, "If this is where we're at with your party this week, where are we gonna' be next week? You have to make this stop. I can dig your loyalty, but Jesus Christ.. Oops.. Sorry."
Needless to say, he took my advice and is now "probably going to stay home. I can't vote for a Democrat."
I told him that he should vote and suggested he take time to at least look at the opponents of those whom he had once been so loyal. And then, just as I was saying goodbye, NEY RESIGNED!
If ever there was an end of season mandate for Dems to influence Conservative and Independent voters, I have not seen one of such promise in my lifetime. It is as if everywhere I look there is a delicious cupcake of reality for me to feast on. Such abundance means that I have plenty to share with some of my friends on the other side of the tracks.
Please speak to someone about this over the weekend.
BURP!
