Here's some interesting news for CA Dems.
Here's the best poll I've seen for down-ticket Democrats. The Hoover Institution is predicting a "Demcratic tidal wave" -- pretty impressive coming from a Republican "think tank" (and I use that oxymoron loosely). The Hoover Poll was one of only two public polls to correctly forecast the outcome of all major propositions correctly
According to the survey, conducted October 19-27 by Polimetrix, Democratic candidates hold comfortable margins over their Republican opponents. Insurance Commissioner John Garamendi leads State Senator Tom McClintock 51% to 45% in the race for Lieutenant Governor. . . .
While I am ecstatic over the Garamendi and Bowen leads I am still troubled by Proposition 90 being so far ahead. There's a bunch of language in that thing that raises questions about the regulation of business in California. For instance, it has been theorized that Proposition 90 may overturn Proposition 103, the Insurance Reform Initiative. Without Prop 103 rates for auto and homeowners insurance will immediately double. But I guess you have to take the bitter with the sweet.
And I must also say the watching Tom McClintock fade is a joy. This guy makes your average Wingnut look like a nice, sensible person. As I have posted before, over the last few years he had really learned how to hide his far right wing tendencies. Did any of you notice him trying to backtrack on stem cell research last week? A Garamendi victory may be the best news for California in this cycle.
Finally, and feel free to laugh, I am not buying the conventional wizdumb that folks are going to vote straight Dem ticket (with the exception of Insurance Commissioner) AND vote for Arnold. I'm just not buying it. (And there are a number of reasons why the Insurance Commissioner numbers are the way they are that is too complex to go into here.) I'm still holding out for Phil pulling an upset.
