Just got out of bed, fed the dogs and strolled out for the Sunday paper. After I got it in and poured a cup of coffee, I opened it up to this headline: "Could it be this Bad for the GOP?" The first sentence says it all, "With more than a third of Ohioans ready to vote a straight Democratic ticket, Republicans could be headed for electoral disaster Tuesday unless their vaunted get-out-the-vote effort comes through." But the real eye-popper was the new polling results, framed as a banner across the top of the paper. Poll results after the break...
OK, here are the poll results. They are likely to cause many Repub readers to mix in something strong with their morning coffee.
Gov: Ted Strickland was up by 19 points on 9/24 over Ken Blackwell and is now up by a whopping 36 points as of today!
Senator: Sherrod Brown was up by just 5 points on 9/24 and is now up by 24 points over Mike Dewine. No bleeping wonder the GOP pulled money out of Ohio.
AG: Mark Dann was the only Dem losing back on 9/24, losing to Betty Montgomery by 8 points. Mark Dann is up by 10 points(!) as of today. This is the one race I thought may go Repub. How sweet it is to be wrong.
SOS: Jen Brunner was ahead of Mark Hartmann by 8 points on 9/24 and is now up by 24 points. Holy mackerel!
Auditor: Barb Sykes was up over Mary Taylor by 12 points and has slipped only a little, being up by 10 points now.
Treasurer: Richard Cordray was up by 12 points over Sandra O'Brien on 9/24 and is now up by 28 points.
My gawd, the Dems are poised to sweep all of the top spots in Ohio. This will be a nice lead-in to the 2008 election, and the 2010 election. It is in 2010 when the apportionment board next meets to decide on redistricting in Ohio. Free at last, free at last. There is plenty of other data in the poll and story in the Columbus Dispatch article, here: http://www.dispatch.com
As for me, I'm off to do a little GOTV work in a few hours, after I get fully jazzed by reading and re-reading this beautiful article. Have a nice day, and GOTV.
