Maybe those rumors of Murdoch "drifting left" are true.
Just kidding. We all know he has no control over the content of the three animated FOX network shows.
However, it was quite a terrific beatup that Bush, the GOP and the disastrous policies they have implemented in the last 6 years received.
First, on the already buzzed Simpson's "Treehouse of Horror" segment, the parody of the situation in Iraq passed from the point of being funny to tragic, and transcended its mere comedy value. It begins with a parody of Orson Welles' famous 1938 broadcast, with the twist being that once "wolf has been cried" Kang and Kodos show up and overrun Springfield. Cut to a ruined scene of Springfield, with the words "Three Years Later" on the screen. A weary Kang returns from what appears to be a patrol, with a crack in his dome. He delivers the sendup of "greeted as liberators" and Kodos does the same with "hearts and minds." The final shot, however, of Kang and Kodos gazing out at a ruined Springfield, as bombs go off, was the most profound. Just like moments in Colbert's roast of Bush, it ceased to be funny, and was instead devastatingly, depressingly true. It could have been a DNC commercial.
Next, on American Dad, Stan falls in with a group of Log Cabin Republicans just so he can speak at the RNC. His son begins to worry that "the gays" are turning him, and reminds Stan that they used to hate being gay, and treated it as a contagious disease. When the LCRs discover that Stan had hosted anti-gay events with Rev. Pat, Stan tries to become gay to get back his spot at the RNC. He attempts a tryst with his gay neighbor. He can't do it, and thus the entire argument that being gay is "a choice" is brutally and hilariously undermined. The episode ends with a few more quick jabs about the Republican politics of hate, with Stan delivering a speech to the RNC arguing that hating gays is a waste of time, when that hate could be reserved for Democrats.
Finally, on Family Guy (ht), twin tracks. Stewie and Brian are suckered into the Army, and are sent to Iraq where they shoot each other to get back to the US. They are told that due to troop shortages, that they can't go back until the war is over, though they are soon relieved when "Democracy" suceeds - symbolized by a scene of chadored women getting water from a well shifts to a scene of a wet t-shirt car wash. On the other track, Chris joins a heavy metal band, and his parents blame his bad behavior on Marilyn Manson, who arrives to debunk the "music corrupts our children" line of b.s.
All in all, 1.5 hours of TV that eviscerated all the Republican B.S. still at large. And funny to boot.
