I'm not sure if this is a new topic, but has anyone ever discussed the leading way the ballots are graphically designed?
I'm a graphic designer moving to Ohio. I had to vote this year, by absentee. This gave me the time to not only review the many names I'd never heard of, but it also gave me a chance to look at the layout and design of the ballot itself. (I know it's sad, but that's what we do!)
Why is it that the Republican party, and every R candidate below, listed first? I'm not sure if this is just a Michigan ballot, but I'd be interested in seeing how everybody else's ballot is layed out.
I mean I can understand why an alphabetic list based on party name would be unfairly giving "rank" to the Democrats. But then how did it go from that to a flat out leading position given to the Republican party and all of its candidates? Why not an alphabetic listing based on last name?
I'm sure it's not a big deal. But I find no logic in the decision to put them first on the ballot. Yes, I'm whining. Is this "alphadog" positioning just another attempt to grab the prime real estate in every aspect of the political process?
