Hi my fellow PA residents. We've got a bunch of open threads today, a lot of diaries scrolling through, but I figured those of us in PA who are looking to get the likes of Santorum, Swann, Fitzpatrick, Gerlach, etc out might want a little place to discuss our experiences, relay any voting machine problems, any campaigning or electioneering, or other useful information.
Here's my experience from this morning:
My polling location is the building I live in so I threw on some rags, picked up the kiddo, and down the elevator we went.
There was a line of about 20 people. Someone at the front had to file provisional I think because they had moved like 4 times in the last few months, but I think they got to vote regardless.
This was my first time voting in this precinct so I had to show ID, although they had my signature on file from my recent driver's license renewal, so that was easy.
Voting in the machine was easy. Nothing misleading, very straightforward, and people were generally in a good mood, except one woman who was on the phone with Verizon bitching about something and asking "You have heard the phrase 'Time is Money,' haven't you? Let me talk to a supervisor, please!"
It was a good laugh.
After I voted, as my son and I walked back to the elevator I commented openly and loudly "Well that was a no-brainer." Then continued telling towards the elevator by singing my son the "We voted" song.
After that, we went up, put on some outside clothes, and I put on my anti-Bush shirt, and out we went, proudly holding our heads up high, whistling as we went.
At one point on the street, someone commented on my shirt and how they liked it. I said thank you and reminded them to make sure they voted today.
My girlfriend voted on her way out the door today and had no problems as she was one of the very first people to vote. She had to show ID like me, but only since this was our first time voting in this precinct.
Let us know how things are going.
As a last suggestion, if others decide to do something like this with a statewide diary for election stories outside the open threads, and considering how the threads are going to be moving fast and scrolling off, instead of recommending this diary, perhaps a front-pager later in the day could make a quick post listing any specific diaries pertaining to specific states so that we can connect with voters in our areas?
