Nevertheless, "...They did everything but threaten to invade," said Mark Weisbrot, a Latin America expert at the Center for Economic and Policy Research in Washington. In utter desperation, the necons even brought back to life convicted felon Reagan zombie Ollie North, who illegally lied to Congress and illegally destroyed evidence to conceal an illegal bribe for illegally selling weapons to Iran for illegal cash for illegal Contra death squads, to now threaten the Nicaraguan people with a return to civil war. He urged the country's voters not to return to the "bad old days... My hope is that the people of Nicaragua are not going to return to that. That's not good for your country. That's not good for my country."
Despite election eve threats to cut off $220 million in US aid, exclusion from the free trade CAFTA, and blockage of hundreds of miilions of dollars of remitances from American ex-patsto their families, the voters if Nicaragua voted in the people's choice.
If the people of Nicaragua can move forward to vote their hearts and minds despite such gross intimidation and attempted subvertion of democracy, surely we Americans can get out and insist on our vote to rid of us of our own death squads: the killers of the US Constitution, the torture lovers and war mongers, the corrupters and the perverters of the American Dream: the GOP
