Repeatedly.
The first time I filled out an oval next to Dick DeVos' name I felt nauseated.
Marking a vote next to Bouchard made my eyes water.
Choosing to fill in for Knollenberg rather than Skinner made me feel like I was selling my soul piecemeal.
The first time was hard. But it got easier. After the 3rd or 4th ballot, I could vote with out a feeling of revulsion, and by the 12th or so, I could do it without the slightest compunction.
No I wasn't stuffing the ballot box. I swore to uphold my duties as an election official, and when it necessary to duplicate a ballot which would not be read by our optical scanners in the Absentee Votting Board, then we would have to reproduce the voter's intent on a new ballot. And I filled in the ballot the way the voter tried to (sometimes we ripped the ballot, sometimes they made obvious corrections, sometimes they made obvious mistakes), even if they didn't vote the way I voted, or the way I hope the results will fall.
So what? I'm just a small cog in the wheels of the Republic, trying to get the vote out correctly, efficiently.
Well, here is my statement. I just spent 14 back breaking hours feeding 5000+ ballots though an optical scanner. If I hear any reports of anyone out there who has illegally/immorally affected the elections, he's getting a plastic spork in the mail from me, because I am coming to rip his balls off.
