On MSNBC, David Gregory just reported that George W. Bush will be holding a press conference tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. to:
...formally react to all of this, uh, I'm told that you can expect some kind of gesture from the President, reaching out to Democrats who are now going to run the House of Representatives. They say he is eager to hear their ideas and listen to them and get some progress on important issues. Coming off a pretty rough campaign, so there's going to have to be some reaching out on both sides.
Really? Let's review comments from Bush and Company these past few days...
What does Bush
think of Democrats?
In all these vital measures for protecting you in this war on terror, the Democrats in Washington follow a simple philosophy: Just say no. (Laughter.)
When it comes to listening on the terrorists, what's the Democrats' answer: Just say no.
When it comes to detaining terrorists, what's the Democrats' answer?
AUDIENCE: Just say no.
THE PRESIDENT: Yes, when it comes to questioning terrorists, what's the Democrats' answer?
AUDIENCE: Just say no.
THE PRESIDENT: When it comes to trying the terrorists, what the Democrats' answer?
AUDIENCE: Just say no!
THE PRESIDENT: When it comes to trying the terrorists, what's the Democrats' answer?
AUDIENCE: Just say no!
THE PRESIDENT: So when the Democrats ask you for their vote on November the 7th, what's your answer?
AUDIENCE: No! (Applause.)
But as always, Bush was only preaching to his rabid, rightwing base and today the voters in America said No! to him.
And from Dick Cheney:
In this election season, national security is at the top of the agenda, where it belongs. Every voter in the United States needs to know where we stand, as well as how the leaders of the Democratic Party view the global war on terror. The differences could hardly be more clear, and they have implications for the future security of our nation. [...]
Time and time again, we're seeing examples of Democratic Party leaders apparently having lost their perspective concerning the nature of the enemy we face, and the need to wage this fight aggressively. No sharper example can be found than the Democratic Party chairman himself, Howard Dean. Don't hold back.
AUDIENCE: Booo! [...]
And that's why, with your help, we're going to see a great Republican victory on November 7th. (Applause.)
Yes, Dick, the Republicans were to be greeted with flowers, but instead they are in their last throes.
And the official mouthpiece:
MR. SNOW: But you also understand, we expect to have a Republican Congress, so we're not going to sit around and start doing "contingency plans."
And so we can say that this is the third war they've lost and the third time they didn't bother to make post-war plans.
George Bush and his administration have marginalized and demonized the Democratic Party for nearly six years and now the worm has turned. As visions of investigations and subpoenas dance in their nightmares, they suddenly are "eager" to hear our ideas and embrace the spirit of bipartisanship.
Touching isn't it?
