There's really no other way to put it. On every single platform and in every respect, Republicans were massacred in New Hampshire last night. This state, long known for being the lone traditional conservative stronghold in New England, didn't just turn blue last night, it removed all traces of red for perhaps a generation or more.
The one everyone was watching? Would netroots candidate Paul Hodes defeat 12-year incumbent Charlie Bass?
You bet he would.
The race no one in the MSM was watching? Would Carol Shea-Porter's grassroots effort be another "Granny D" quixotic attempt?
Ummm...no. In what might be the biggest upset in the nation, Carol won.
No, it doesn't stop there.
Dem Gov. John Lynch creamed his opponent Jim Coburn in a landslide.
And then there were additional surprises (election results link).
The State House changed hands to the Democrats.
The State Senate changed hands to the Democrats.
The quirky but powerful Executive Council changed hands to the Deomcrats.
Sorry for the unanalytical and largely linkless diary, but I am as stunned as I am sleepless.
But I just had to get the word out that:
A NEW DEMOCRATIC ERA HAS BEGUN IN NEW HAMPSHIRE!
