Well, everyone thinks I'm always too pessimistic ...
But I'm just hearing Rahm Emmanuel's "maiden" speech as the leader of the Dems' House campaign and it just confirms everything I've been saying ...
"We now begin the hard work of governing" ??? "We're going to reach across the partisan divide" ???
Sorry, dude, the Dems are NOT governing ... even if they win the Senate ... we have a
Presidential -- not Parliamentary -- system ... especially with this regime ...
So don't start taking responsibility for a situation in which you don't have any major power ...
And don't start talking about "reaching across the partisan divide" until you know ON WHAT BASIS you're going to be able "reach across" that divide ...
If you're just going to go along with the Bush discourse -- and hence program -- then all you'll be doing will be giving a "bi-partisan" sheen to a deeply partisan situation ...
While Rove / Cheney / Bush would obviously prefer to not lose a trusted toady like Dennis Hastert,
you know they're looking at each other and thinking, "This is great ... as things start to fall apart, we can now bring the Dems in to share the blame and force THEM to clean up the mess we've made" ...
