No sleep.

I am operating on no sleep.  Well, no, I think I blacked out for an hour or two around 5 a.m. But I will gladly exchange my droopy eyes, aches and pains for the Democratic victories last night.

With BooMan, Gabingirl, Psifighter, AdamB, Luam and many other Philadelphia Kossacks, Boomanisters, and MyDDers, I trekked up to Bucks County to partake in Patrick Murphy's close and astounding victory over Republican Mike Fitzpatrick.

It was a long night.

But it was worth it.  Sweet Jesus, Mary and Joseph, it was worth it.  A Democratic House.  A Democratic Senate.  A Democratic Country.

Thanks to Cabingirl, here are some pictures of the evening.

Looking at the returns.  And drinking.

Waiting still.

And here we are, bloggers, actually helping count the votes and confirm the victory.  The cheer once we confirmed victory that went up from that room, and that spread throughout the hotel, still sends chills down my spine.

Congressman Patrick Murphy.

Congressman-elect Murphy is simply spectactular.  I had doubts about his chances on Monday, but I am glad I was wrong.   So fucking glad.

Finally, I have a nit to pick.  The Sierra Club.  Like NARAL, this malignant single interest group did everything it could to prevent our Democratic victory last night.  In fact, Murphy would have won going away, if not for the Sierra Club's interference.

From the Philadelphia Inquirer:

Fitzpatrick also has earned high marks from the Sierra Club and the League of Conservation Voters for his staunch defense of the environment. And he won endorsements from the state Fraternal Order of Police and its lodges in Bucks and Montgomery Counties and Philadelphia, largely because of his sponsorship of a bill aimed at protecting children from online predators.

"Fitzpatrick is the only Republican I voted for," said Julie Klein, a 28-year-old cook from Doylestown Borough. "He got my vote because of the Sierra Club endorsement."

Driving up there, all we saw were "Sierra Club Endorses Mike Fitzpatrick" signs.  Thousands of them.

The Sierra Club can go to Hell.  They will never see another dime from me again.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
