The great news keeps coming regarding yesterday's victories. The
League of Conservation Voters has been working hard to defeat the "Dirty Dozen," a group of virulently anti-environment Congressmen and candidates. Some were already in office and the LCV supported their challengers, while others were challengers themselves whom the LCV tried to keep from being elected. It was a pleasure to receive an email from the LCV today announcing that
at least eight of the Dirty Dozen were defeated, and possibly more, depending on recounts. The most infamous is Richard "Let's Sell Off America's National Parks" Pombo, who was displaced by Jerry McNerney in CA-11. You can find the full list in Extended.
One of my top priorities is environmental protection, so you can imagine my glee at seeing the success LCV had in this election.
A lot of people don't care for the single-issue groups, and after reading Crashing the Gate, I can better understand why. I certainly don't base my vote entirely on whom LCV or any similar group endorses. But such organizations are great resources to learn about the voting histories of our politicians and better help us make informed decisions about our favorite issues.
Just another in a long series of successes in Election 2006, successes upon which we will continue to build.
