Update [2006-11-11 19:6:39 by NeuvoLiberal]: Final normalized results: It appears that supporters of Clark promoted this poll in a candidate-specific way despite the "honor code" request I had made.
Based on the initial trends, Clark was drawing 16% in this poll, before the effect of this "ballot stuffing" kicked in.
Therefore, I have performed a normalization of the poll findings, under the assumption that Clark would pull in 16%. The algebra for the normalization is below the fold, but here are the normalized results for this poll (double digit vote getters in bold. Winner is Gore)
Your choice for the 2008 Presidential nomination
Bayh 10 votes - 2.3 %
Biden 3 votes - 0.6 %
Clark 168 votes - 16 %
Clintons 8 votes - 1.8 %
Daschle 0 votes - 0 %
Dodd 3 votes - 0.6 %
Edwards 60 votes - 13.6 %
Feingold 91 votes - 20.6 %
Gore 112 votes - 25.3 %
Gravel 0 votes - 0 %
Kerry 5 votes - 1.1 %
Obama 54 votes - 12.2 %
Vilsack 2 votes - 0.4 %
Richardson 6 votes - 1.3 %
Other/Not Sure 17 votes - 3.8 %
442 Total Votes
Normalization method: The poll stabilized at 539 votes with Clark showing 168 votes. Assuming that x number of votes for Clark were turned in via ballot stuffing, and that he would have received 16% of the vote, we get the equation (168-x)=.16*(539-x), which when solved gives us x=97, i.e. about 97 votes were probably stuffed for Clark. Subtracting 97 votes from Clark's tally and recalculating the percentages gives us the table posted above.
Update [2006-11-9 23:26:14 by NeuvoLiberal]: It appears likely that the "honor code" may not have been respected by some supporters. In any event, reader is referred to the snapshots of results posted below for a progression of the poll results.
OK, it's time for a quick 2008 straw poll.
Candidate/Prospect list: Bayh, Biden, Clark, Clintons, Daschle, Dodd, Edwards, Feingold, Gore, Gravel, Kerry, Obama, Vilsack, Richardson, Other/Not sure
An Honor Code Request: Please DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT, promote this poll in any place (or mailing list) other than in open and candidate-neutral threads at Daily Kos, myDD, Booman Tribune, MLW, and other general progressive community blogs.
The reason is simple: if this poll gets a couple of hundred votes and one or two candidates' supporters mobilize a hundred votes, the poll is completely skewed and useless for any reasonable purpose.
i.e. NO candidate-specific promotion, please.
Just vote, and enjoy a friendly discussion. I'd appreciate any recommendations of the diary as well (we'll be able to get a few thousand votes polled that way).
