Election Day Weather Forecast

This is a short Stu Pidasso diary asking folks to check and see what the weather forecast is in their area for Tuesday November 7, 2006.  I know that only big-time nasty weather truly has a negative impact on voter turnout, but figured it do us all some good to spend some time talking about the weather, instead of about Kerry.  Of course, I'm sure some numnut will state with absolute certainty that any inclimate weather that shows up in their area on election day is directly attributable to John Kerry.  Oh well, the world needs more Stu's.  

So, how 'bout that weather, huh?!  

I'm in Columbus Ohio, along with every pollster and reporter in the free world.  In fact, I'm lucky to have found the time to write this important diary about the weather in between all of the phone calls asking for my opinion.  I've just decided to give the weather forecast for 11/7 and then I hang up.  

Anyway, go to http://www.weather.com and find out what the weather forecast is for election day in your area and then lets talk about the weather...and relax a little.    

The forecast for Columbus on election day calls for a cloudy day with a high of 56, which isn't too bad.  I'll take that.  Much better than 32 degrees with icy rain.

  •  I've been rooting for good weather...

    assuming a higher turnout was better for the Dems.  I hadn't really seriously considered that bad weather would keep the less motivated Repubs at home.  Guess I can buy that.

  the long-range forecast is for excellent weather in DC and Hampton Roads, with showers in the southwest (and eastern Tennessee).  If the showers depress turnout, that will be good for Webb and Ford.  But it's a chance of showers only, and forecasts this far out are quite unreliable (on distance scales of a few hundred miles).

  high of 51, thirty percent chance of showers.  Sounds decent.  Folks around here are pretty weather resistant though -- they pride themselves in not letting weather interfere with their living.
  It was pretty frigid tonight when I was out canvassing around 5:30 p.m.  The ending of daylight savings time last weekend has put a crimp in the dinnertime canvassing.  People don't like to open their doors after dark, so that only leaves a short window from about 5 to 6 when you might catch people home from work but before dark.

    I do environmental enforcement and got called into a last-minute meeting with folks from the AG's office, and the canvassing I'd promised to help out with...well, I was a no-show.  Felt like a real heel.  Oh well, I'll try to make up for it tomorrow.  Anyway, nice job.

    I wish he would have picked a little larger location.  The first few shows are at a small libary on the Ohio State campus.  Last show is in either the Ohio State basketball arena or in the Blue Jackets arena.

  November 7th - partly cloudy, 50's, 10% chance of precipitation.

  Nice daytime temps for November, we've been getting some really cold nights.  A small percentage for precip can turn into a major winter storm here in Cleveland, but so far I like the odds.  I never trust the partly cloudy stuff - today was supposed to be cloudy and I had sunshine screaming through my windows all day.

  Berea is on the SW side of Cleveland, near Cleveland Hopkins Airport.

  •  I lived in Raleigh for about a year...

    while working for an environmental consulting/engineering firm.  Did work all all over NC, and in SC and VA.  Did a small project in Asheville.  Loved my place in Raleigh...and the weather, and being a couple hours from the ocean and a couple of hours from the mountains.  

    What district is Raleigh?  Just curious?

    •  Raleigh is split up among several House districts

      I know that much of it is NC-4 (Price), and some is for either or both of NC-2 (Etheridge) and the relatively new NC-13 (Brad Miller).  I live in a nearby city in the same county as Raleigh.

      1.  The second party on the Minneapolis City Council is the Greens.  (Yeah, the elections are nonpartisan -- in theory.  And Chicago has a "weak mayor system of government.)

      2. The climate is similar to the one I grew up in (Ulster County, NY).

      3. I feel more comfortable here than in other places I've lived.
