Hi, everyone. My Dad, Jack Carter, and I want to extend a big
Thank You to the Daily Kos community. So many of you helped us out in a big way with your money, time, and support, and we are very grateful to everyone who chipped in.
As you know, we didn't make it. Nevada
missed out on the big Democratic successes on Tuesday with none of the Democrats on the top of the ballot pulling through. While we lost the Senate race by a solid margin, Jill Derby and Tessa Hafen lost their Congressional races by just a few points each, and Dina Titus fell just short in her Gubernatorial race as well. It's especially heart-breaking to lose those close races.
While we were disappointed that we didn't win, we are excited that the country as a whole elected the agents of change. My Dad first decided to run because he was frustrated with the way things were going, he was upset with the Bush administration, and he thought he could help change the direction of this country. There was a big cheer in our hotel suite on Tuesday when CCN projected that Democrats would take the House. And earlier today, when it became official that we'd taken the Senate as well, we were ecstatic.
Here is the email message that my Dad sent to supporters yesterday:
Well, folks. We lost. But the nation as a whole pulled us away from the precipice we faced with this Republican government. We now control the House of Representatives and, as of this writing, have a good chance at gaining the Senate. The goal in our race was accomplished around us.
I want you to know that I have no regrets. In fact, Elizabeth and I are inspired by your efforts and by the thousands of people we met on the campaign trail who encouraged us and voted for us. We were the nail, but you who volunteered your time, your money, and your ideas were the hammer that drove us home.
Remember this: I did not lose because Nevadans rejected me or my message, but because I didn't meet enough of them. I am convinced that we Democrats can cut through the cynicism left by corrupt politicians and bring solutions to the problems we face in this country. And I'm equally convinced that our message of focusing the government on the working men and women in this country will ultimately triumph.
Take what you learned in this race and apply it elsewhere. Leave the cynicism to the other guys. Let's take another step forward in 2008 to add to the ones we took last night.
Elizabeth and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Y'all did great. We're proud to have worked with you.
Rock and roll!
Jack Carter
Personally, I want to thank you all for letting me be a part of this community, even separate from what you all did for the campaign. It was a lot of fun for me to participate in such a fun and interactive community. It's a community that is just beginning to be heard and I think it'll become more and more influential in the coming years.
Thanks so much for everything!
Sarah
