So how did the Fighting Dems do? I took a look at the candidates highlighted during dKos'
Fighting Dem Tuesday last spring, and checked their totals from
CNN's Election site.
And here's what I found:
CA-04: Brown- lost to Doolittle, 49-46%
CO-05: Fawcett- lost to Lamborn, 59-41%
CO-06: Winter- lost to Tancredo, 59-40%
GA-01: Nelson- lost to Kingston, 68-32
IL-06: Duckworth- lost to Roskam, 51-49
IL-14: Laesch- lost to Hastert, 60-40
MD-06: Duck- lost to Bartlett, 58-39
MN-01: Walz- defeated Gutknecht, 53-47
NY-25: Massa- losing to Kuhl, 52-48
PA-07: Lentz- replaced by Sestak, won seat in statehouse
PA-08: Murphy- currently beating Fitzpatrick by 1500 votes
PA-10: Carney- defeated Sherwood, 53-47
TX-06: Harris- lost to Barton, 61-37
VA-Sen: Webb- defeated Allen, 50-49
(Latas (AZ-08), Falzett (CO-02), Baldwin (MD-03), Horne (KY-03), and Dunn (NC-08) aren't mentioned on CNN-- I think they all dropped out during the campaign season)
I have to admit, I was surprised to see so few of them won. I figured they would perform relatively well in these (mostly) conservative districts, but I guess I'd underestimated how sour the Democratic brand has become to people in these places. Nevertheless, as someone living in a district where it took our new Dem representative 2 tries to take a noxious GOPer (Chris Chocola), I certainly hope to see these names again in the future, when they can build on what they built this year.
UPDATE (3:41pm): It was mentioned downthread that Murphy has been declared the winner in PA-08. Congrats, Congressman-elect! Also, it must be noted that, even though I didn't see Sestak on the Fighting Dem Tuesday diaries, he is, in fact, an Admiral. AS YOU WERE, KOSSACKS!
