According to
Newsmax today:
Newly re-elected Sen. Joe Lieberman has been promised by Sen. Harry Reid - who is in line to become the next Senate Majority Leader - that he will support Lieberman's efforts to become chairman of the powerful Homeland Security Committee.
In a private phone call on Wednesday, Nevada's Reid told Lieberman that he would recognize Lieberman as the senior Democrat on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, which would facilitate Lieberman's move into the post.
Seems to me like a strategically good place to put him.
It's in his sweet spot. He was going to get something out of giving the Dems the majority.
And the Republicans have already endorsed Joe - largely over security issues in particular.
So if the Dems don't pass a bill that gives Bush carte blanche to wiretap everyone in America without a warrant, their ability to attack him is going to be limited.
I like Harry Reid. I loved his response to the news of Rumsfeld's departure. He's a very smart street fighter.
