You want a fight, James?
Bring it on, is all I can say.
If Mr. Carville wants to fire the first shot in a (completely unnecessary) intra-party war -- let him try it. He will, without doubt, LOSE -- and irrevocably trash his own reputation in the process.
1. The state party folks that helped Howard get elected in the first place will stand behind him. He's done exactly what he said he would -- and we're in a great spot to take even more seats (especially in the Senate) in '08.
2. We all know the grassroots will rally behind Howard like crazy. Expect December meetups (sorry, DFA-linkups) attendance to double. We've lobbied the DNC members before, and we can do it again -- easy. The call to action practically writes itself, and the frame of DC insiders vs. Howard is one we're all REAL familiar with.
3. If need be, it will take me about 10 minutes to cancel my Democracy Bond, and transfer that monthly giving straight to DFA. (I trust Jim Dean to use my money well.) It'll take me another 20 to badmouth Carville up and down the street, on every listserv I belong to. Next I'll figure out who James is working for, and start badmouthing them too. I figure most of you -- and everyone who reads the progressive blogs -- will be doing pretty much the same.
He may have married a Republican, but I really don't think James Carville is THAT stupid.
But if he is? Bring it on, James. We're ready for you. Fresh from the fight, we've got the taste of victory in our mouths, and we're looking for our next crusade. I'd prefer it to be towards picking up more House and Senate seats next cycle -- but if you and Mr. Betray-Democratic-Principles Harold Ford want to stand in our way first, that's your decision.
Just don't be surprised when you find yourselves flat on your asses, looking at the rear end of a freight train that's chugging towards 2008.
