Has anyone ever considered the real reason why all of the Clintonites seem to be completely opposed to the current direction of the Democratic Party? (and thats not a rhetorical question, I really want to know)
I'm not just talking about Carville's recent sniping at Howard Dean. I mean the whole lot of them just seeming to pop up in the wrong places and on the sides of issues that just don't line up with the majority of us in the progressive community.
My fundamental question is what's really going on? It can't simply be opportunism and greed. Lust for power maybe? That doesn't explain Hillary Clinton spending $30 million dollars on her own safe senate seat while other NY candidates down the ticket are starving for money and could have defeated vulnerable Republicans. It doesn't explain why every 6 months or so Begala and Carville crawl out of their spider holes to launch a broadside against the netroots and then crawl back into obscurity. I watched Clinton grovel behind George Bush and Company for the last 3 years to the point where I actually get nauseous just looking at him now. When he gave the Shrub cover for Katrina, I was done. The only time he has shown some backbone is when that bullshit Path to 9/11 came out and although he was right, I can't help but feel his actions were mostly self serving. Whatever is going on goes way beyond all of that. I mean are the Clinton's' and their familiars that fucked up?
I fought tooth and nail for the Clinton's during the 90's but between him kissing Bush's ass and all of his senior staff taking turns fucking over the progressive movement I am totally disillusioned now, and not for the reasons you may think. I am really having a crisis in faith. Was I really fighting for what I believed in or just Clinton the man? And if I was what makes me any different from the "38%" dead enders that still support Bush today?
I saw Lisa Caputo on MSNBC the day after the election and I believe it was Chris Matthews that threw her a softball that was something to the effect of "now that the democrats have won the midterm elections, will you give credit to Howard Dean and his 50 state strategy?" Instead of being diplomatic she went out of her way to say "no I give the credit to my good friend Rahm Emmanuel" It was an obvious dig at Dean, and a slight to the net roots. Its almost to the point where you can't name one member of Clinton's senior staff that hasn't taken a shit on Howard Dean. Hillary (and Harold Ford) knifing Kerry in the back about that statement he made about Bush and his intelligence; totally unnecessary but typical.
We are now so caught up in Bush's psycho drama that its hard to really look inward but we must. As anyone can see we are collectively suffering for GWB's Mommy and Daddy issues partly because there is still a segment of society that continues to enable him and reward his personal failures. These dead enders are so partisan and so blindly support him that they refuse to even consider that there may be a pathological problem with "Bush the man". They do this because they have made an emotional investment in "Bush the man" not his policies or his abilities. It's a presidency based on a cult of personality. We as liberals cannot be guilty of the same.
