I'm sick of older white American men deciding what is best for Iraq. At bottom it doesn't matter whether it is Jewish-American neocons or fat slobs like Lawrence Eagleburger who is the lastest Bush 41 man to join the "illustrious" Iraq Study Group.
These men have spent damn little time on the ground in Iraq - all of it inside the Green Zone - and clearly showed no interest in leaving that American enclave to venture into the real Iraq which is essential to understand the situation as it really is.
The bottom line is that Americans cannot decide what is best for Iraq. Only Iraqis can do that. Americans can and must conclude that our invasion and occupation of Iraq is illegal, and that crime voids any valid input on our part.
Our job is to get out of Iraq. We can contribute to an international fund to reconstruct Iraq and provision release of that money on a cessation of violence in Iraq. That is the sum total of our influence over events in Iraq.
George W. Bush has zero credibility, has violated moral codes and international law, and has forfeitted the right to any decision affecting Iraq because he ordered an illegal invasion based on known false pretexts.
Calling in so-called "wise" couselmen after the fact and after the damage is done does not alter the diagnosis that United States is the aggressor in Iraq and the major cause of the chaos and violence there today. Americans should shut up and get out!
Eagleburger to join U.S. Iraq study group
Reuters Fri Nov 10, 3:07 PM ET
Lawrence Eagleburger, who briefly served as secretary of state under President George W. Bush's father, will replace Defense secretary-designate Bob Gates on the blue-ribbon study group that is expected to recommend a new U.S. approach to Iraq.
The announcement was made by the United States Institute of Peace, which is coordinating the study chaired by former Secretary of State James Baker, a Republican, and former Rep. Lee Hamilton, a Democrat.
