A lot of people, myself included, are upset that James Carville couldn't wait until the ink was dry to start up the Democratic Circular Firing Squad again, this time aimed at Howard Dean. Governor Dean wasn't my top pick in 2006, but has done a superb job as DNC chair - and even if he hadn't, we WON. Isn't it kind of stupid to change course AFTER a victory???
I, for one, am tired of hearing the same old same old about how un-unified the Dems are, how we always eat our young, and so on.
So, here's how I hope to stop it.
First, everyone who has the money and is so inclined, donate to the DNC.
Second, call in to talk radio and/or C-Span and just rave about how wonderful Dean is. Don't criticize Carville, Schumer or Emmanuel, just talk about how great Dean is.
Third, write a letter to the editor, talking about the great results of Democratic teamwork, and give credit to Dean and your favorite candidates or surrogates. This has two impacts: one, it supports Dean, and two, it plays up the unity angle. Whether you thank Schumer, Duckworth, Massa, Whitehouse, Clark or whomever, it breaks up the idea that Democrats are disorganized, overly-emotional, crazy or whatever.
Fourth, write a letter to the DNC, DSCC, DCCC and any other Democratic organization that covers the same points as your letter to the editor.
Finally, if someone mentions Carville to you, say something simple like, "That seems like an odd strategy, changing course after a major victory. Maybe he's not used to winning!"
Any takers?
