Anyone whose had the misfortune of tuning in to CNN Headline news and found the vile Glen Beck foaming at the mouth about modern day "commies under the bed" already knows what a disgusting excuse for a human he his. His show's M.O. seems to be find the lowest rung on the neocon ladder, and then stoop to go below that. It's like Rush Limbaugh with even less talent and less wit. And he reached a new low.
I've never been able to stomach more than 35 seconds without changing the channel, but Media Matters has a video of Beck's racist, bigoted, shameful new low: Asking newly elected, first ever Muslim Congressman Keith Ellison of Minnesota, "Sir, prove to me that you are not working with our enemies."
[sorry to be so crude, but...]
WHAT THE FUCK????
This coward Beck just accused a duly elected member of the United States House of Representatives of being a
traitor! He smears Arabs, Muslims, and Somalis (and, of course, Democrats by association) in the span of just a few seconds. McCarthyism is supposed to be dead. The fact that it is supported by a News organization just makes it worse, and is a slap in the face of the late Edward R. Murrow.
CNN responded well when their anchor made a gaffe about Ned Lamont and made sure there was a very timely, prominent correction. This time, they need to correct the problem by removing it. Write to CNN, Turner Broadcasting, and TimeWarner to demand the END OF THE GLEN BECK SHOW.
If you're feeling a bit more proactive, you might think about sending a copy of the video to CNN I-Report. After all, if a cheesy TV hack accusing a new Congressman of treason isn't news, what is? And a few thousand copies in their in-box might add to the message.
Scum like this should be kicked to the curb with the rest of the waste.
Update: Here's what I sent to CNN:
Why do you have a racist bigot like Glen Beck on the air? Ignoring the mountains of garbage this show has spewed the many hours you have wasted broadcasting it, how do you justify keeping someone who accuses a newly elected US Congressman a traitor on your "news" network?
Don't bother parsing how Mr. Beck said it, his message was crystal clear, and not the least bit subtle: Congressman Ellison is a Muslim, therefore he supports Islamic terorists who attack the US. There is no equivocation. That is what he meant.
When will his program be cancelled? If it is not, I will not watch any other Time/Warner channel until this is corrected. I am cancelling my AOL account. My Time Magazine subscription will not be renewed. My nephew will not be getting his SI subscription renewed for his birthday. (Were I a TW cable subscriber I would switch my broadband to DSL). I am telling all my friends and readers of the blogs I frequent to do the same.
Trash like Mr. Beck belong on the compost heap, not the airwaves.
I look forward to hearing from you.
