After this week in American television, I feel I have to say this: I'd rather see Janet Jackson's nipple. In fact, I'd prefer looking at her whole entire bare breast - even if there were kids in the room - to the kind of racist and sensationalist garbage we've got on TV.
Beck said: "I have been nervous about this interview with you, because what I feel like saying is, 'Sir, prove to me that you are not working with our enemies.' " Beck added: "I'm not accusing you of being an enemy, but that's the way I feel, and I think a lot of Americans will feel that way." - Media Matters
I'd rather hear the words fuck, shit, cocksucker, motherfucker and tits coming from my TV or radio than hear the crap Glenn Beck and others are dishing out.
What the fuck is Glenn Beck thinking, asking if a Muslim Congressman is our enemy? Rep. Ellison ran for Congress because he's a patriot. The majority of voters in his district believe he will serve them well. His religion has nothing to do with it. Glenn Beck prefaced his question by saying he likes Muslims and he doesn't think it's a religion of evil. If that were really the case, he wouldn't have to wonder if Keith Ellison is an enemy of America. Furthermore, if he did have Muslim friends, I'm not sure that he does anymore.
No amount of dirty words can be as filthy as the trash coming out of Glenn Beck's mouth. Another example on Media Matters invokes the Holocaust:
Beck also received "the bronze" in Olbermann's "Worst Person" segment for asserting, in response to a New York Times report on a Treasury Department program designed to track terrorists' international financial transactions: "Can you imagine The New York Times coming out and saying, 'Hey, the ovens aren't so bad,' back in World War II. Can you imagine that?" Beck continued: "I don't know. Sure, there are some Jews in there, but I bet they might make some good pizzas in there, too. The New York Times is just -- I don't get it. I don't understand it."
Rachel Maddow played another clip comparing universal healthcare to the Holocaust, and I think it was Glenn Beck again. I've been to see Mauthausen, a Nazi concentration camp, and I take offense. Nothing compares to the Holocaust - except for perhaps our American torture camps that Bush claims are legal and necessary.
It's insane, the stuff we can't have on TV. In the U.K., it's no big deal - especially late at night. I used to watch comedy shows where audience members would answer questions about their most embarrassing experiences. One guy told about getting a knock on the door and thinking it was his girlfriend, so he stuck his dick out of the mail slot... except the person at the door was his aunt. One of the breakfast cereal commercials had a woman in bed saying that the cereal was great but it wasn't better than sex. That stuff versus the poisonous, bigoted SHIT coming from Glenn Beck? No question.
Rachel Maddow postulated that the Republican party is giving up trying to attract minorities into its ranks now. No more Mehlman, instead we've got Mel Martinez - a major gay baiter who has two top staff members who are closeted gays themselves. Trent Lott was demoted for racism, and now he's back too.
The message is clear. If you hate immigrants, gays, Muslims, minorities... anyone slightly different from you... Welcome. The Republican party is the place for you.
I'd like to know how long CNN is going to allow Glenn Beck to openly flirt with racism on their network. We had a national outcry over The Nipple. Why doesn't Beck's behavior garner equal (or greater) criticism?
