Stupid has reached critical mass in America. And as we lead the world, for good or ill, civilization itself threatens to become an unstoppable juggernaut of blind running stupidity.

How will we ever save ourselves from the stupid? I think we have no choice but to call a Constitutional Convention to form a new government based on common sense. The whole phony-baloney game of politics in America should be flushed down the toilet. We should hire professionals to run the government - the best and brightest economists, scientists, scholars, administrators, and so on each in their logical roles. No more FEMA disasters, no more boobs in charge, no more Abramoffs, no more Rumsfelds, no more spoiled dim-witted rich boys, no more placing the future in the hands of those whose only competencies involve getting people to vote for them and give them money for various illogical, and often illicit, reasons.
If we continue to muddle along with the same old corrupt, incompetent, and grid locked government we presently have; if we trust the Democrats (try as they might) to act boldly enough to save us, we are all headed for our doom sooner rather than later.
World temperatures are rising to levels not seen in at least 12,000 years. Greenland's ice mass is melting at "what what NASA calls a 'dramatic' rate of 41 cubic miles per year." And unless climate change is reined in, "extreme drought could eventually affect one-third of the planet." More than 5,000 activists, scientists, and diplomats understand these facts and have gathered in Nairobi, Kenya for the annual two-week U.N. Climate Change Conference, which is now in its final three days. As U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan wrote in a Washington Post op-ed, "The stakes are high. ... Yet too often climate change is seen as an environmental problem when it should be part of the broader development and economic agenda." The Bush administration and the 109th Congress haven't understood these stakes. Hopefully, the 110th Congress will. Incoming Senate Environment and Public Works chairwoman Barbara Boxer (D-CA) recently said, "Time is running out, and we need to move forward on this." The Bush administration's chief climate negotiator, however, promised conference participants that the White House would continue to do as little as possible.

Our government is not the answer. Our government is a huge part of the problem. Ask a Katrina survivor if our government will save us. Ask them in Darfur what congress has done for them. Ask all the harmless potheads rotting in our prisons what our government's infinite wisdom has done for them.
Our only realistic choice is to reform our government drastically from top to bottom. We have the right and the means to do it as provided for in our constitution - but do we have the will and the foresight to realize that it is imperative? That remains to be seen.
If we fail to act radically to change the present dynamics we will be wiped out by the inconvenient truth that hurtles toward us all with alarming speed.
Failure to act boldly and decisively would be...well - STUPID.
