Live Blogging Election Results: PA-SEN

This diary will cover the results of PA-SEN for the Election Results Live Blogging project. Herein we will watch as Santorum circles the toilet bowl on election night.

PA-SEN - 95.78% reporting
Bob Casey (D)	2,251,813	58.7%
Rick Santorum* (R)	1,581,512	41.3%

UPDATE: THE RACES HAVE BEEN CALLED FOR CASEY AND RENDELL

Benchmarks:
1. Expect both Casey and Rendell to prevail by 10+ points.
2. PA-03 and PA-09 and deep red districts considered to be 'safe republican.' For example in PA-09 Shuster captured nearly 70% of the vote in '04. Look for it to be significantly closer this time.

Meeting both of these benchmarks would support the idea that a democratic wave is forming.

    i'm in france for this election, relying on the internets for the news. i plan on staying up as late as i have to see the results...

    i'm from district 3, voted absentee, porter doesn't really have a chance, but...At least Santorum is OUT!

    Btw, my mother worked the polling place and she said turnout was really high, it was busy all day, and there were quite a few technical difficulties. i'm glad i voted absentee!

•  Tony Barr v Bill Shuster: The inside story

  My dad in Pennsylvania just checked in.  He's in the Democratic Headquarters in McConnellsburg, PA, deep in the big Red Zone of this supposedly blue state.  

  "We just found out that we can't change the landscape with three consecutive miracles.  Tony Barr got something like 41% of the vote, with Shuster scooping up the rest and staying in for two more years.  We'll be back to harass this guy another time.  

  What we know about our Fulton County is that Tony Barr did better than any other Democrat...including the statewide winners Casey and Rendell.  We are in deep red here and we "will continue to fight to turn this part of the state around.  it'e time to go back to the locker room for a pep talk...Coach Barr will be leading the team out for the next "half" in 2008!

      the one who resigned amid a cloud of corruption investigations.  The 9th has been re-gerrymandered recently...so it is likely that parts of the 9th used to be in the 12th.

      so the short answer is yes.

        at the Transportation Funding and Reform Commission hearing in Harrisburg this past September (I was support staff)

        They were both completely rude to support staff. But the crowd seemed to fawn over the father. the son was scheduled to speak and did not. it was noxious.
