I'm fucking pissed.
Why?
Because of the following statement made by Marie:
Particularly offensive are the gay men who show up to tell us that abortion is "icky." We don't concern ourselves with what you do with your bodies - only your right to fair and equal treatment under the law and personal privacy - so leave our bodies alone. If you want to bully anyone, there are more than enough GOP bullies for you to tangle with. IOW, and to borrow from Jeneane Garafalo, stop being dickheads (and wimps).
Dickheads and wimps?
Are you fucking kidding me?
This is the most overreaching, demeaning, assumptive, and offensive statement I've seen in a long time. First of all, I remember (like it was yesterday) a certain "pro-choice" woman on this site using the word "icky" to describe homosexuality. (I won't name names because I respect that poster and her anonymity).
But it appears Marie feels that pro-choice women have been a "blanket of support" for gay men. How dare the gays criticize or have a nuanced opinion on abortion when all the "pro-choice" women are supporting you and not telling you how to live.
Bullshit.
Bullshit.
Bullshit.
First, I'd like to know how many STRAIGHT "pro-choice" women on this site have an opinion on gays. Are they not allowed one? I would think based on the reasoning of some that since it doesn't affect them they should just castrate any thoughts when it comes to homosexuality.
Please...
I also remember another pro-choice woman on here stating flat out that she is pro-gay rights, but would not be happy if her "child" was gay. It was an honest opinion. It was the opinion of one person. I didn't take it as a conspiracy by the pro-choice women against gay men.
I didn't create a division to make some sort of point.
Marie has gone on further, in comments, that she has encountered many gay men on here (a "swarth" of them) who have been critical of a woman's right to choose. And with that I countered that I'd like to see the evidence. I want to see this gay conspiracy against pro-choice women. I want to see this "swarth" that keeps attacking pro-choice women.
How on earth can Marie make such a strong statement and then provide mere anecdotal evidence supporting her claim of this gay conspiracy? Where are the facts to back this up? This may not be a thesis, but if you are going to shovel the shit in a loaded statement, then you should back it up BIG time. Otherwise, it's bullshit empty words.
I would wager there is no conspiracy. Her statement makes good firebrand, but it's a shitty comment that is divisive, offense, and inaccurate on so many levels.
I've also got some news for you.
I may be gay, but you know what, I got a girl pregnant once when I was young, and stupid, in college. She had a miscarriage early on, but we BOTH discussed our options prior to the loss. You see, I had an opinion back then. I also have an opinion now. And, whether or not I have a uterus, I can speak up about abortion if I want. And you know what, I agree with most of the pro-choice women on here regarding a right to choose. But, if I had an opinion that differed, I'm allowed. And if another gay man never has to deal PERSONALLY with this issue, they CAN have an opinion too.
It's not any more or "particularly offensive" than if any other fucking human being on the face of this earth of any color or creed differs with you.
And while some women feel it's solely their body and choice (which I respect), some people feel it's the woman's body holding half of my baby.
What really gets me is the "you don't have a uterus, now shut the fuck up and support us because we support you" feeling I get after reading that statement.
Well, that line of thought is officially being thrown out the window by me.
Let it be known, I will speak up when and how I want on this issue. And if varying opinions on abortion comes up by gay men, then so be it. Just as pro-choice women have varying opinions on homosexuality (even if Marie doesn't think so), gay men will also when it comes to abortion.
And, for the record, my anger is solely based on that comment.
