Campaigning. Grassroots organising. GOTV. All of it. Will it make a diffenence?
I've been picking up rumblings about electoral fraud around the blogosphere for a while now, but just recently I went and had a look.
And it scared the shit out of me.
Gore. Ventura county. Max Cleland. Georgia. Chuck Hagel. Nebraska. Jeb Bush. Katherine Harris. Diebold. Sequoia. California. HAVA. Blackbox voting. Of such things are conspiracy theories made.
There's this powerless feeling of futile rage that these things could have happened, and we just don't know. And it could happen again.
So how about Moveon offering a reward, say half a million, to the first two insiders to come up with proof that electoral fraud has occured and that it could happen again? If has happened there has to have been some peons there to do the dirty work, to swap or reprogram the memory cards, or some programmer who slipped the vital lines into the code.
How could we lose? Either we have some degree of faith restored to our electoral system - we don't have to worry that our democracy is, to put it bluntly, being subjugated - or we have proof that it did happen, proof that the media can't ignore as opposed to the (very frightening) circumstancial evidence we have now?
Oh, and exit-polling. We need exit-polling.
p.s. sorry but I'm on a slow connection and don't have the time to hunt down the links.
