I just read the latest issue of Newsweek (the one with Bush and his dad on the cover) and was astonished not to find a single story on the Democratic takeover of Congress.
No stories on the new leaders - Pelosi and Reid - or even some of the new faces - Tester, Webb and Brown. Nothing.
Just a rehash of the same old faces.
And I thought that Newsweek was supposed to be the liberal counterpart to the rightwing Time magazine.
Anyway, this is a letter I just sent to the editors
Dear sir
It was revealing this week when I opened the latest copy of Newsweek (November 20) that even a major shift by the American electorate won’t change the Washington media’s obsession with the Republicans and the right wing.
After an election where the Democratic Party won both Houses of Congress, but even more remarkably, did not lose a single incumbent representative, senator or governor, Newsweek still can’t see past the GOP.
I have just read your November 20 issue (I presume it is the European edition) and was flabbergasted that there were not a single story focussed on the new majority.
As far as I can tell, there was a piece on Bush turning to his father; another piece on who his father’s people and the Baker/Hamilton-commission are; A story on Rumsfeld resigning; another piece on Gates (who was mentioned extensively in both the father and commission pieces) and finally a Jonathan Alter column about the strategies for the 2008 election.
If it was not for the few graphics and tables, you would not know that the democrats won two weeks ago.
Don’t you think that your readers, especially your many readers outside the US would have liked to see who the leaders of this movement are, rather than more pieces on same people you have genuflected before the last six years.
Yours sincerely,
Altus Momberg

I guess I should be thankful for small mercies: They could have done another blowjob-piece about Joe Lieberman.
