Treasury Secretary John Snow has come out in support of outsourcing. Anybody surprised?
He says it can make the economy stronger.
"It's part of trade," Snow said. "It's one aspect of trade, and there can't be any doubt about the fact that trade makes the economy stronger."
"You can outsource a lot of activities and get them done just as well, or better, at a lower cost," Snow said..."If we can keep the American economy strong and growing and expanding, we'll create lots of jobs."
I'm reminded of a joke poem I read a few years ago. I don't remember the exact words, but the gist was that there was this boy whose dad gave him a dollar to spend any way he wanted. He went out and traded the dollar for two quarters because two was more than one. He then traded the dollar for three dimes, because three is more than two. The dimes for four nickels, because 4 is more than 3, and finally 5 pennies, because 5 is more than 4. He then skips home and shows his dad what he's done. His father cries, and the son assumes it's because he's so proud that his boy knows the value of money.
These guys are trading off our "dollars" for "pennies" and trying to say that "less is more". In this case, though, more is less. Who is really benefiting, here? Only business.
