Bush Drops Below 40% at Rasmussen

I'm not sure who Rasmussen has been polling since the election. Perhaps they were only polling Bush's "base" to keep him above 40%. Since the election, their daily poll has even shown Bush gaining approval!

But it finally happened today! Bush approval drops to 39%, with only 18% strongly approving and 21% somewhat approving! The big news here? The disapproval rating is at 60% with 43% strongly disapproving and 17% somewhat disapproving

Rasmussen has actually been polling nearly 10 points higher than other recent polls. On November 18th and 19th, they had Bush approval at 43%. Where they came up with that number is anyone's guess!

And to you Mr. Bush I can only say, I'll see you in the 20's by Christmas!!

•  Rasmussen Data

  A couple of weeks ago, I noticed an entry on the Rasmussen website which actually pointed out reasons why his polling gives Bush somewhat higher approval ratings than other polls.  He stated that it was the way in which they asked the question and indicated that it might result in a 3-5 point higher approval rating than other show.  If that's still correct, and one makes that adjustment, his results are consistent with everyone else.

  He is a Republican, but his polling results are generally pretty accurate, as witness his record on the most recent Senate races.

  I dont think Bush really cares about his poll number, specially post election and he wont be facing re-election anyway....Bush can actually do whatever he wants now and not have to worry about loosing seats, which is scary...I could see this guy stick it to the democrats and refuse to change course in iraq, then turn around and bomb syria and iran..he doesnt have nothing to lose at this point.

•  Rasmussen can't post Bush's approval rating

  without following it up with qualifiers and disclaimers because it consistently flys in the face of every other poll out there.

  Even when the last 2 scandals sent other polls plummeting, Rasmussen registered upticks in his poll both times, citing the possibility of 'noise' to explain it.

  Strikes me as highly questionable, especially in light of his known Republican affiliation. Rasmussen is the last place I consider to get an accurate reading on the national pulse.

    I've just been checking them daily to see if they will ever acknowledge reality. I'm sure it hurts them to report the truth and I'm not sure they'll ever be 100% truthful, but it's nice to see their number finally reach the 30's!

  I'm no expert on polls but doubt Bush will go deep down into the 20's by Christmas (or ever) because -- here's my unscientific analysis -- we know that approx 25% is his rock-bottom wacko base who are utterly nuts. And then there's a 5-10% layer above that of people who are "nearly nuts" or "swing nuts." There are people out there who are in love with this man. There are people who think he is the other Son of God or at the very least appointed by God. There are people out there who are not well educated or who are even dumber than Bush. Add 'em all up and you get up near 30% poll ratings.

  I like the Rasmussen poll because I think it skews a bit Republican in its sampling and braces me for a reality check -- but when Rasmussen drops below 40% for Bush look at the effect! Whoa! It's like the Wizard of Oz spoke!

  To me, the really disturbing thing to consider about Bush's low polls is that a man so utterly unsupported by the people holds the power of the American presidency. Yet he's powerless because he does not have the support of the people. What is that?

  It's tyrannical impotence. That's the danger. And tyrannical impotence is a classic trait of the personality of an old man  grasping at power, like Cheney and now, per the polls, Bush (Rumsfeld was another one, now leaving). If this were Britain this problem would be dealt with by new by-elections but unfortunately our system isn't set up for a vacuum in the presidency where a man has power but not the people's will. By definition it's not democratic, is it? What will this hole in our world manifest, I wonder, over the next two years?
