Thanks for the letter. It was really thoughtful of you to take time out of your busy schedule to write to Americans about justice and so forth. You deserve a reply.
I: Yeah, we fucked-up in the past. Had we not overthrown Mossadeq, perhaps none of this would have happened, but then again, we wouldn't be able to have this friendly dialog! So maybe it was worth it after all! just kidding....
II: If you are so concerned about justice and human rights, maybe you should start at home. In America I can still criticize the government, I can still browse the web without government censorship, my favorite newspapers aren't arbitrarily shut down, and my wife doesn't have to wear a chador or think of herself as a second-class citizen because she is a woman and a Christian.
Yes, the American people don't trust our government (what is new?). But we sure as hell don't trust yours! You want us to embrace Islam; why don't you embrace Liberalism? Try having free and fair elections. Try adopting the Bill of Rights. Try finding jobs for your paramilitaries.
III: Why don't you layoff the Jews? For the love of God, if all the blood, sweat, toil and tears you put into delivering justice to the Palestinians was put into building them an independent homeland nearby, they would be much better off, don't you think? Everyone has to face injustices large and small every day, but most of the time it's best just to let it go. Hate can poison and ruin lives. Instead of hating the Jews, forgive them and sit down to negotiate a win-win situation moving forward.
IV: You sound a little smug since a series of Bush Blunders™ basically handed you Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria and Lebanon on a silver platter, but it won't be long before the adults return to power, and the problems that are now overshadowed by the Iraq War will still be there.
Your move.
Signed,
Paul Goodman
