If you've been following along (and I know you haven't), this is my third McConnell diary. The other two can be found here and here.
None of these can be described as "breaking news." And, none are particularly titilating. They're not necessarily meant to be. What they are is a look into the background and the voting record of the Senate Minority leader.
My goal is simple. Spend the next two years exposing this man for what he is, a dishonest politician who takes bribes and, as a result, makes poor legislative decisions. I hope that by two years from now, and McConnell is up for another election that this will somehow seep into the public consciousness and weaken his ability to run. More...
Basically, I want to cut his political hamstrings.
This particular poor decision could have devastating consequences that we may never even know about.
Voted NO on restricting business with entities linked to terrorism.
Vote to adopt an amendment that makes US businesses and their subsidiaries liable to prosecution for dealing with foreign businesses which have links to terrorism or whose parent country supports terrorism. Voting YES would:
Empower the President under the Trading with the Enemy Act to prohibit US businesses and their subsidiaries from transacting with foreign businesses identified as having links to terrorism.
Forbid US businesses and their subsidiaries from engaging in transactions with any foreign business whose parent country has been identified as a supporter of international terrorism.
Require the President to publish a list of foreign businesses identified as having links to terrorism, and bans US ownership or control of foreign businesses engaged in transactions with such businesses.
Call for US businesses to disclose in their annual reports any ownership stake of at least 10% in a foreign business that is itself engaging in transactions with a proscribed foreign business.
In McConnell's world, terrorists are okay, as long as they have business connections. That way, if they blow something up, at least some deserving American made a profit. He is so paid off that he won't let anything, least of all terrorists, stand in the way of his donors making money the only way they know how... irresponsibly.
In McConnell's world, if you're a corporation, you're gold, and he wants to scrape a little of that gold off your giant golden nutsack and put it in his pocket. But, if you're a person, and you don't want to give up your freedoms for security, well then, you're screwed.
The Military Commissions Act Provides Essential Protection
Wednesday, October 18th, 2006
This legislation ensures the President will be able to continue the terrorist interrogation program that has saved innocent American lives and prevented attacks here at home and around the world. By passing this bipartisan legislation, the Congress recognized, as the President does, that we are a nation at war against extremists who want to kill our citizens, cripple our economy and discredit the principles we hold dear - freedom and democracy.
The military commissions system codified in this legislation protects our troops and protects classified information. And most important, it protects America. It is a critical component of our national security effort.

Those extremist want to "kill our citizens." Doesn't matter, you can do business with them.
They want to "cripple our economy." Except for the ones we do business with.
They want to discredit "freedom and democracy." Well, the freedom thing is covered. Habeas Corpus: Suspended! As for democracy? Already discredited!
All is well in McConnell's world. Except for the whole "protecting America" thing. He is the very embodiment of profit over people.
