Contact the Media: DEMAND they cover the Robo-Call Dirty Trick

Sun Nov 05, 2006 at 06:08:34 PM PDT

On the front page a few minutes ago - now eclipsed by polls - were two diaries on the harrassing robo-calls - which SOUND like they come from Dem candidates, but are actually RCCC hit pieces, meant to annoy voters into voting against the Dems. These calls are currently happening in CT, NH, NY, CA, IL, PA, and KS - that we know of. And they are effective - they are angering recipients into NOT voting for Dems. So now, what do we DO about it? Suggested action items below the fold.
FIRST, Read the front-page diaries on this, then click over to TPM, which is tracking this, minute by minute.

What we're talking about is something a bit different. What we're seeing is an apparent coordinated effort from the NRCC -- the House GOP committee -- to place calls that appear to be from the local Democratic candidate and then automatically call the same number back as many as seven or eight times each time the caller hang-ups. If the caller listens to the whole message it goes on to bash the Democratic candidate. But if the caller hangs up prematurely, the computer calls right back.
SECOND: Send e-mails to newspapers, cables, and local news, demanding that they cover this.  Be polite, but firm.   Include links.  Suggest that they ask Kan Mehlman about the illegal calls. Personally, I am going to insist that since they spent 72 hours talking about John Kerry flubbing a joke, they spend at least 72 MINUTES talking about Republican dirty tricks.

Then, pick up the phone.  CALL your local papers and news stations, demanding  that they cover this story.  THey all have contact info on their web sites.

Here is the link to the EXCELLENT media contact list assembled by Kossack Timroff

THIRD: Post on every other liberal blog you follow, asking them to get their readers swarming the media, as well.

You know the media wants to ignore this - let's make it impossible.
