Many of you know that
Rep. Al Wynn (D, MD-04) has been on the wrong side of the issue on such votes as the bankruptcy bill and the estate tax bill. He's voted to gut the Endangered Species Act. He even voted with the Republicans on the Terri Schiavo legislation. He has been a strong supporter of Bush's energy policies and voted against net neutrality. In short, Al Wynn supports the corporate greed that the Bush Administration fosters.
MD-04 is a heavily Democratic district that stretches across a large portion of Montgomery County and Prince George's County in Maryland. Basically that means Al Wynn has no excuse for voting with the Republicans on such critical issues. He's a seven term Congressman that has faced no serious challenger. Not until now.
Donna Edwards is challenging Wynn based on these votes. She believes we deserve better representation for such a diverse Democratic district. Donna is both a real progressive and a real inspiration to anyone who has met her. I urge you to see for yourself by going to her
website.
From her campaign website:
Since 2000, Donna has served as the executive director for the Arca Foundation in Washington, D.C. She has gained national prominence as a strategist and creator of innovative efforts to support "living wage" campaigns, ensure the independence of the federal judiciary, end capital punishment, protect Social Security, and support labor and human rights internationally. She has led efforts to bring millions of dollars to programs that make a difference in the lives of working families and to hold our government accountable.
In Donna's own words:
"Why I'm Running"
A Message From Donna Edwards
At every stage in my life I have welcomed challenges and fought for the needs of others. Today, I see a need in Maryland's 4th Congressional District.
We need someone to represent the district who cares deeply about our families, our community, and the direction of our country. I am running to bring a positive change to the 4th District of Maryland.
Some people will ask, why run against an incumbent Democrat in a Democratic district? The answer is simple. Our current representative in Congress consistently votes against the interests of ordinary Americans, casting his lot with Bush and the Republicans on such critical issues as Iraq, the industry lobbyist-written energy bill, and the bankruptcy bill.
My record is one of leadership on these issues. I listen to people, not special interests. And in Congress, I will work tirelessly for the common good.
As you know, for those of us who care deeply about the direction of our country, every Congressional District is important. I am prepared to work with other Members of Congress to make some real, tangible, progress in Washington. I will stand strong and fight for the goals we share for the future of our nation.
I am asking today that you join me in this fight by supporting my candidacy for Congress.
Thank you.
Do you want to take back Congress from the Republicans and those that have voted with the Republicans for policies that hurt middle class families? If you do, I urge you to help elect Donna and send Al Wynn home. Contribute to her campaign. After seven terms, we need real representation!
