Remind Rahm About the Robocalls

Wed Nov 08, 2006 at 08:15:18 AM PDT

In the euphoria of yesterday's results we should not forget about the NRCC robocall scandal.  This might have influenced some of the close races we lost like Duckworth in Illinois that weakened our majority.

I understand the need to project responsible mature leadership but it is essential that the Democrats fight back on this HARD, (even if its behind the scenes so as not to upset the delicate sensibilities of the Candy Crowley's of the world).  It would be absolutely unconscionable if in 2008 we have to deal with this crap again!

more after the fold...

Rahm Emmanuel claimed that the Dems were going to take care of this after the election.  In light of his recent comments that the party "cannot allow the party's liberal wing to dominate the agenda next year", we need to make sure that this was not empty rhetoric!

Contact Rahm Emmanuel and hold his feet to the fire:

Do people have other suggestions on how to make sure that this is addressed?  Should we push to require that automated political calls no longer be exempt from the do not call registry?

    One month before the election.

It is appallingly irresponsible for the DCCC and for the individual campaigns not to have taken note of this tactic and planned to counter it.

The calls were a great opportunity for the Democrats to create some big blowback onto the Republican Party, if only they had been ready to exploit it.  But they were asleep at the switch, and by the time they realized the negative impact of the calls, it was too late to counter them effecively.

This is an appalling failure in leadership and nothing else.
