Just on the heels of the Foley and Haggard scandals, in another example of Republican morality and values, Larry Corrigan, a key King County, WA Republican political operative was arrested on suspicion of attempted child rape and online communication with a minor for sex. Corrigan was Director of Operations and Budget for the King County Prosecutors office and is a long time political operative who worked on previous campaigns for Republican Dave Reichert, who recently defeated Dem challenger Darcy Burner. The entire story can be viewed here.
Ironically, Corrigan bears and eerie resemblance to George W. Bush, as shown in this photo from KOMO-TV:
More on the flip:
Although this story was briefly diaried earlier this morning, it merits further discussion as it brings to mind a scenario of a seeming epidemic of sexual misconduct among Republicans and various wingnut extremists in recent times. About a month ago Larbabe wrote an excellent diary entitled "GOP Sex Addicts, Family Values Hypocrites" which undeservingly passed into diary oblivion.
For those of us who are sick and tired of having Clinton's extracurricular fling thrown in our faces by wingnuts and fundies, Larbabes diary chronicling scores of recent Republican and wingnut sexual improprieties is a must read. Take a moment and view the diary here. Throw this in the face of your Republican friends when they mention Monica Lewinsky.
Recent Republican sexual and ethical scandals, with their concomitant blatant hyprocrisy have undoubtedly driven many "values voters" into the arms of the Democratic Party. Our job now is to keep those values voters in our fold and reach out to the rest of them. Fortunately these scandals have opened the eyes of many values voters.
Is there some form of endemic character flaw in the Republican/Wingnut psyche that has generated the flood of sexual and ethical misconduct so aptly demonstrated in Larbabes diary linked above? Can some of the many mental health and academic ethics professionals in the Kos community share your thoughts in the comments about this subject?
