I am so fucking SICK of the excuses.

We didn't know.

We don't know where the country is.

But they're not LIKE me - I don't know anyone from that country.

We have elections to win.  No time right now - check back in a month or so.

The elections are over.

This shit has been diaried over and over and over and over again.  You know.

But still we get the same old shit – the same old excuses for inaction and disinterest.

I think you know where I’m heading with this one.

Make the damn jump...

Ok so I’m resorting to obscenities here but if it means slipping in to my MSOC mode to get your effin’ attention than so be it.

I’m talkin’ about genocide.

I’m talkin’ about the wholesale slaughter of Africans living in Sudan – in Darfur.  And now in Chad and other neighboring countries.

I’m talkin’ about how the only people (African Union troops) with boots on the bloodied ground, standing between those who’ve survived this Rwandan-like genocide for the last 3+ years and extermination will be forced to leave at the end of the month.

There’s a diary up right now (http://www.dailykos.com/story/2006/12/6/93738/2787) called UN: Darfur is on Free Fall with a grand total of maybe 15 comments.  Free Fall.  And still no one’s interested enough to say anything.  Darfur, eastern Chad and the Northern Central African Republic are getting sucked in to this mess.  And the only noise over this is the damn crickets.

So what’s it gonna take for this community to get active to help stop this slaughter of innocents?  Hmmmm?  Will all of Africa have to descend into chaos?  Will it have to spread into the Middle East?  Asia?  Europe?

We can’t say we didn’t know.  As edgery pointed out in the above linked diary, there have been at least 30 diaries on this issue in the last 3 months.  With barely a whisper.  We’ve asked for your time (a minute to make a phone call to the white house – or 30 to write an LTE to your local paper).  We’ve asked you to attend rallies.  We’ve asked you to lobby your congresscritters so they’d include another 60 million in the appropriations bill to fund the AU troops for another 6 months.

We’ve told you what’s happening.

I told you back in mid-October that 80 children were dying each and every day because of this conflict.  Eighty children – think of how many Columbines that is folks.  And since that time nearly 3,000 children under the age of five have fucking DIED.

Still nothing.

SO – here’s what I want you to do right now...

Call the White House - 202-456-1111 and demand action.

Call your congresscritters through the capital switchboard - 202-224-3121.  Ask them – no demand that they support an amendment that would add 60 million in aid to help fund the AU troops for another  6 months.

Write LTEs about this horrific situation - http://www.democrats.org/...  You can get info and background at SaveDarfur.org’s web-site.  But you really don’t need any more info than the basics.  People are dying.  We need to do something to stop the slaughter.  Simple as that – my 5 year old can figure it out for fuck sake.

And if you’re in the DC area on December 10th – show up at the Sudanese Embassy at 2 pm.  It’s located at 2210 Massachusetts Avenue NW Washington, DC 20008.  I’ll even give you the link to a mapquest map of where it’s at - http://www.mapquest.com/... No excuses – suit up and show up for an hour to help stop this slaughter.

Get informed by going to the SaveDarfur.org’s newsroom page for the most up-to-date info - http://www.savedarfur.org/...

Goddess dammit – I’m not askin’ much here people.  Make a couple calls.  Send an LTE to your local paper.  DO something to help end this genocide.  This is a community of over 100,000 people.  If we wanted to do something as a group we could move mountains.

Well this is a mountain that needs moving.  The genocide’s been going on for over 3 years and still the world remains silent while thousands are slaughtered.  I’ve seen more of an outcry over the slaughter of wile horses out west here than I have over the slaughter of innocent people.

Are we going to make some noise over this – or are you to busy to give a shit?

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

RECOMMEND this so others see it.
Or write a better diary and try to generate interest.

Either way - it's my goal to get one of these up to the Rec list so we can generate some action on this issue.

The AU troops are pulling out at the end of the month - time's running out folks.

with even a little bit.  That's what it takes to get the diary up the list.

Do you care?  Then hit the REC buttons!!

I don't think you can edit polls anymore with the new software.

He's the facts. bush junior doesn't care-they have no OIL.  Our Country is broke. Until we get rid of Junior nothing will happen.  The man-boy is nuts. We can't even save ourselves right now let alone the rest of the World. IMPEACH!

We can do a lot to help stop this genocide.

"Bush is still President" is just one more excuse and I'm not buying it.

The people of Darfur have waited too long as it is.  They don't HAVE another 2 years to wait for us to get off our ass and do something to stop this slaughter.

Throughout this horrific situation, he HAS responded to outcries -- when we cried loudly enough.  He named it genocide, after pressure.  He's met with the SaveDarfur and other organizations, after pressure.  He sent an Assistant Secretary from State, after pressure.  He charged Bolton with negotiating in the Security Council, after pressure.  He named a special envoy, after pressure.

This is the one area where Bush has done the right thing, when he receives sufficient pressure.  And that means that taking the simple steps IS worth the precious little time and effort spent.

the clooney thread on the front page?

How ANYone can question whether this is freakin' genocide is beyond me.  I've got steam coming out of my ears over this shit.

And here was have yet ANOTHER diary with just a handful of comments on this slaughter.

Like I said - if we were talking about the slaughter of wild ponies out west there's be an uproar here.

I get so sick of this place sometimes - the hypocrisy - the refusal to act or to even give a shit - is absolutely mind-blowing sometimes.

        •  thanks for the tip on that thread (0+ / 0-)

I dashed over and gave one of my lengthy "let's review" responses -- don't know what comes over me when faced with that kind of argument, it's like the peaceful determined rational me flees while the firebrand slowly emerges in full heat!

But we will continue -- because we know it's the only way.  Each time the genocide is raised here, we might only reach one person -- but that is one more person than cared before.  At least, we will have a response for our grandchildren we will be proud of (from the full page ad in the NYT, 4/16/06)

When your grandchildren ask what did you do to stop the genocide in Darfur, what will you say?
