The AP is reporting that this morning's execution of Angel Nieves Diaz in Florida required a "double dose" of lethal chemicals in order to complete the procedure. Department of Corrections spokesperson, Gretl Plessinger said "she doesn't believe Diaz felt any pain." Give me a fucking break!
Plessinger went on to say that Diaz had a liver disease which required the second dose of lethal chemicals, and Governor Bush weighed in with " A
preeexisting medical condition of the inmate was the reason tonight's procedure took longer than recent procedures carried out this year."
Nevermind that Diaz's family knew nothing of such a condition. Nevermind that Puerto Rico's Gov. Acevedo Vila and Senate President Kenneth McClintock wrote to Bush to stop Diaz's execution. (Puerto Rico abolished the death penalty in 1929) Nevermind that there were no eyewitnesses to the murder that Diaz was allegedly executed for, and nevermind that Florida's three chemical method of execution has been highly controversial because one of the chemicals is a paralyzing agent prohibiting the inmate from showing pain.
Gov. Bush was comfortable intervening in the Terri Schiavo case, and has been a vocal anti-abortion advocate, while touting his approval of the death penalty. What hypocracy. How barbaric can this country be? Right now I am ashamed of my state and country.
