                    It's some in-joke that the site creator came up with based on some experience he had when he was younger that he refuses to explain to even the LGF fanatics. I wrote a few more details in a comment below this one.

                    There's something ironic about knowing that the site's most rabid fans seem to enjoy being kept in the dark about what is probably a really dumb joke anyway.

                  The story is that the LGF name is some kind of in-joke between the site's creator, Charles Johnson, and some other people (friends? relatives? imaginary friends?) from a time when he was in Japan, but it doesn't refer to boogers and it doesn't refer to drugs, and he refuses to say what it does refer to. Apparently all the LGF'ers have just gone along with the non-story ever since and don't think about the origin much since they've associated the little green football with their "Five Minutes of Hate" fix, and also think they are somehow in on the joke, whatever it is, even though they're not in on the joke. Weird, huh?

                  Sadly, I used to read LGF quite a bit from some time in 2004 to mid 2005 when I realized I was only getting one side of the story and that dKos was light-years more reality-based, which is where I prefer to live. The weird thing is that LGF never started as a warblog: Johnson put it up around Feb. 2001, apparently to talk about goofy Internet stuff and bicycling. Then 9/11 happened and changed everything™ and LGF slowly morphed into the #1 Git Yer Five Minutes o' Hate Here® site for any kind of news that puts Muslims, Palestinians, Arabs, and/or liberals in a bad light (or some sort of nefarious association with each other), and then any kind of news that puts Jews and/or Israel in a good light. The thing is that Charles and probably 95% of his readers aren't Jewish, but most seem to have this strong affinity/identity with Jews, because a lot of the LGF'ers have persecution complexes, and they also like to feel they are allying with countries like Israel that they perceive as "fighting the good fight" against the heathen infidel Muslim Ayrabs whom they should ideally be trying to kill more of on their behalf. Sick, huh?

            That's very restrained of you, though I'm not sure why you're being restrained.  

            I can see the polls done for laughs -- I set up one of those myself -- and I can cut some slack for curiosity polls if the pollsters are clear that they don't take the results very seriously.  But some of the recent polls around here ... ugh!  Bad enough that they're taken far more seriously than they should be, but it's even worse given how incredibly badly most of them are worded.

          my observation, though, is that, if your internet connection is NATted, then only one vote can be casted from behind the NAT. So, if there are more than one person wishing to vote in your office, the first one to vote wins. No-one is able to vote.

          Clearing the cookies do not help. At least not on IE7. And, I haven't waited for 24 hours yet.

    Kos hasn't campaigned for it.  They give out a medal you can put on your site that links to the voting page, but it isn't up here.

    BTW, as long as I'm here, Stayin' Alive is a finalist in the health/medicine category, and I'm getting creamed too.  You can go to Stayin' Alive and click on the medal to get to that category page; and from there you can get to the other categories and vote for Kos.

    If you were going to be generous to them, you'd say that they are vocal conservatives, and the discussion focused on the issue of the Middle East, terrorism, and security.

    If you were going to be closer to the truth...you'd say they were pretty much all insane. Lots of calls to nuke various places in the Middle East, manifestos of how the Palestianians in particular should be "pushed into the sea," amidst generalized hatred and fear of all things Arab and all things Islamic. Anything resembling a voice of reason there usually gets banned fairly quickly.
