On Boston.com tonight is the story "Two local AM stations turn to Latino music.":
Goodbye Air America, hello "Rumba." Thursday at noon, Clear Channel stations WKOX-AM (1200) and WXKS-AM (1430) will switch from "Boston's Progressive Talk" to "La Nueva Rumba," both simulcasting a "tropical" format of primarily Spanish-language announcers and music, ranging from salsa, merengue, and bachata to the contemporary sound of reggaeton
Behind the movie is Rafael "Raffy" Contigo, who has apparently flipped stations in other markets. Ironically, they're upping the station's meager 10K watts to 50k.
This is the first I've heard of this, and apparently no one at the two stations are letting anything slip, either. At the station's website, there is no mention of an imminent format change. The article says the changes will take effect this Thursday morning. You would think that AirAmerica would do well in a liberal market like Boston. Dammit.
AA in Boston also broadcast my favorite progressive talk show, the Stephanie Miller show. Will I finally break down and get her overpriced podcast??
