Recently we talked about how Cannabis is one of THE top cash crops in America.
America is one of the largest - if not THE largest - producer of cannabis in the world, so why am I always out of weed?
Cannabis rant on the flip. You may or may not be interested. Be advised there are no cheerios or spongebob references. That's for people who still drink the reefer madness kool-aid. If you are in this demographic, please...just click here and read something else. Thanks.
I am a good citizen. I do NOT ask for much.
I pay taxes, I drive on the proper side of the road, I open doors for little old ladies. I vote.
I have spent 25 years helping others.
I live in what is perhaps the world's largest cannabis producing country, so why am I forever out of weed?
Why do I I have to risk my life to get even a quarter-ounce? Why is the herb nearly $400 per ounce for "the good stuff". Why do I have to smoke the bad stuff - which, thankfully, I cannot find anymore? Growing my own is out of the question being a homeowner. That's like a death warrant.
I have always had to obtain my herb from people who know other people who know actual dealers. This has been imperfect and inconsistent at best. People move away; I had one "retire". And then move away.
My last "connection" is packing it in and moving to a different area of the country. I suppose I could ask to be introduced to his supplier, but my guess is I don't want to meet that person - too dangerous.
People smoke tobacco until they get cancers and die, people drink alcohol until they die. I am forever angered when I drive down the road seeing people smoking tobacco while they drive.
And this is Georgia: any idea how many people are working on their 4th DUI but still have a license? God it pisses me off.
People have the right to buy as many guns as they want and it's legal to ride around with them in their vehicles. Guns kill a LOT of people each year but people defend their right to have them. Cannabis never kills anybody (and just stop with the traffic bullshit: there's always some dumbass doing something they shouldn't and this has nothing to do with me).
There is no "lethal dose": that's more US Government lying. But there is for alcohol. Legal alcohol. Several people each year die from legal alcohol overdose - and it's still legal. Apparently the Universe is held together by hypocrisy.
I just want to smoke a little in the evenings after a hard day at work: Fridays are about 16 and a half hours for me - there is NO harm in my coming home, flicking on iTunes (I love Groove Salad from Soma FM) and smoking a few bonghits. I talk with the wife. I take a shower and go to bed. A real threatening drug using lifestyle yes?
When I run out I am angry. I am not addicted because I can go weeks without it and I have no "withdrawal symptoms". Try getting a cigarette smoker to do that. Or a regular beer drinker: just give it up for a few weeks...here and there....with little notice. I think you cannot.
I am INDIGNANT because the ONLY FUCKING REASON is the capriciousness of the law. The GOP mainly, with a little help from those in the Democratic party that habitually suck up to them on this issue.
This is the only reason I cannot smoke when I so desire: reefer madness.
The Democratic Party has to be the agent for change. The Republicans are heavily invested in cannabis prohibition for a wide variety of reasons (and those reasons don't need to be discussed: it's extraneous).
Dems can accomplish the needed changes simply by talking about cannabis law reform. They don't have to write any laws. They don't have to do anything but run the holes under their noses. It's perfect for them.
When Dems start talking about cannabis reform like sane, down-to-Earth people, it will bypass the longstanding media filters which black rational discourse from the TV and other media.
The GOP will doubtlessly go apoplectic and further demonstrate their ugly mean-spirited ways as well as demonstrate how far out of touch with some very simple realities they are.
Dems have everything to gain and nothing to lose, though we have seen them often preferring to work tirelessly to not do the right thing. (Look at how they carp about impeachment: if George Bush doesn't deserve impeachment, the whole concept is inherently meaningless.)
Come January, prepare to talk about cannabis reform all the time.
Like it or not.
(Ok... I feel a little better now. Thanx for listening!)
