Many soldiers say troop surge a bad idea

Spc. Don Roberts, who was stationed in Baghdad in 2004, said the situation had gotten worse because of increasing violence between Shiites and Sunnis. I don't know what could help at this point," said Roberts, 22, of Paonia, Colo. "What would more guys do? We can't pick sides. It's almost like we have to watch them kill each other, then ask questions.

Will anyone hear what our troops are saying? I'll say it again... Will anyone hear what our troops are saying? One more time in Cheezy Frank Zappa Joe's Garage fashion.  Will anyone hear what our troops are saying? You all know what to do!!!!

Pfc. Richard Grieco said it's hard to see how daily missions in Baghdad make a difference. "If there's a plan to sweep through Baghdad and clear it, (more troops) could make a difference," said the 19-year-old from Slidell, La. "But if we just dump troops in here like we've been doing, it's just going to make for more targets."

Given six years of failure what would make anyone believe that there would be a plan.

Is that, after everything that has happened, and all the predictions and plans have been exposed as bullshit or complete fantasies...

there are still powerful people in DC, and in the media, who were and are more than willing to pimp this 'Surge' idea and all the bullshit that goes with it just as quickly as everything else this crazy crew in the White House has dreamed up.

Its why I still think that Bush may very well find a way to engineer a war with Iran yet.

opt to kill more Americans in something that was unwinnable from conception. Couple this with the mention of hiring mercanaries, another carrier group heading to the middle east, and the knowledge that Bush's middle east order will not be complete until he attacks Iran.
That was a plan from the get go and I believe it will happen next fall.
This all bothers me more as we are now hearing what Ford thought about Cheney, Rummy, and the idiocy of attacking Iraq. Bush still would have ignored him as he did but I wish he had spoken up.

the day the idiot attacked it. This is still just getting started and nothing will turn it around.
This is from the diary I did on this, this mornig. Just remember amidst all this there is another carrier group heading to the middle east and Bush appears to be promising to send 30,000 more American's into the hell he has created. No matter what anyone says or does no one will turn around bush's Iraqi breakdown and it will spread throughout the entire middle east!

As far as I am concerned the only thing that could have turned Iraq and all this around would have been to reinstate Saddam, keep an eye on him, and restore order in his violent way. it would beat the horrific violence invoked by Bush's so called victories! quite provovative indeed!

      •  you're not kidding! That and the fact that (0+ / 0-)

Al Qaeda in Iraq gave us 1 month two leave and without our heavy equipment or else. Very scary! this wil blow soon.
I can't get a piece on that, that I included in my diary I think today but also in yesterdays without losing this. Pardon my french but Bush will see to it that this gets a lot more fucked up and the outcome will be no different than the loss he guaranteed in Afghanistan, Iraq, and the entire middle east when he stupidly diverted from the so called war on terror to destabilize the middle east by attacking Iraq.

    Pfc. Richard Grieco

The guy from 21 Jump Street is in Iraq?  Is there a Cpl. Johnny Depp?

Sorry, don't mean to hijack or make light of a serious diary and feel free to TR if you desire, but that struck me.

  •  Bush is in new territory with this escalation (4+ / 0-)

Escalations during the Vietnam War were undertaken with the presumption that America couldn't lose a war.  Now, we know we can.  And with all evidence indicating we have lost control in Iraq with no hope of saving it from civil slaughter, an escalation there makes Bush look delusional and dictatorial.

The body language at this morning's presser was palpable.  The heads of Condi and Gates continuously drooped and dropped, knowing that Bush's escalation would change nothing except for our own body count.  They are now in the position of looking crazy for abetting Bush's escalation, no matter how hard they're arguing against it behind closed doors.

Something's gonna snap, here, if it's just Bush, Dick and Barney arguing for escalation.
