KOS KIDS TO MEET IN NOLA 2NITE

Thu Dec 28, 2006 at 07:00:09 AM PDT

Good morning everyone!  Last night several of us began talking on some of the Edwards threads.  Guess what?  There appears to be a few of you in town!  Some of you live in New Orleans or there about and some of you are visiting.  After some discussion, we've decided to meet!  I believe this might be the first time this has been done in New Orleans.

HERE'S YOUR FORMAL INVITATION - AFTER THE JUMP:

DRUM ROLL:

DOOT! DOOT! DOOT-DOOT! DOOT-DOOT!

HEAR YE!  HEAR YE!

You are requested to appear for an enjoyable evening at:

The Columns
3811 St. Charles Ave.
New Orleans, La.

at or around 8:30pm

They have valet parking if you want it but the neighborhood is safe to park in.

You may know of my whereabouts by the dkos sign somewhere on or near my person.

Come and discuss the events of the day or just enjoy yourself in a historical landmark and faux-brothel where Louis Malle shot Brook Shield's first movie - "Pretty Baby"  (and, as it has come to pass, her best movie).

Looking forward to meeting all who can make it!

nolalily

P.S.  You don't have to be an Edwards supporter to attend.  I got into this discussion somehow and I'm not.

I had my 10th High School reunion at the Columns years ago (graduated from Ben Franklin in the 1970's).  I am also impressed with the Saints this year (though I am now mostly a Panthers fan).

I have lived in NC for 16 years, and cannot attend tonight, but I will be there "in spirit".  Have a great time !

  •  So I'll FINALLY get to meet you, (0+ / 0-)

after the third or so meetup attempt.

    See you tonight!

  •  I am tempted to come but (0+ / 0-)

I hate driving from the northshore and back in the dark.  (I know, I am a coward! LOL!)  I will be there in spirit.  The Columns is a lovely place to get together.  Have a great get together!  I will check in tonight and see if you are live blogging.  If you ever do a lunch time get together I will be there!

Actually since the hurricane I have become really scared driving on bridges.  I do it anyway, but I don't know if I can handle it at night.  Just one more of the anxiety disorders of post Katrina NOLA.  Actually I am checking into hotel reservations right now but they are pretty pricey.  I guess to pay for those increased salaries.  Thanks for giving me a hardy laugh.

I received a call last week from someone who's developed a "phobia" since the storm and is having trouble crossing the causeway, too!

Actually it is getting much better, though still an ugly little monster lingering in the background.  How did the evening go?  I am so sorry I missed the opportunity to meet you all.

was a relief worker who discovered that the Causeway is giving her similar symptoms to you. The problem with the Causeway is that there's nowhere to pull over in order to wait for the panicky feelings to pass and to then get calm enough to resume the drive.

Sorry.  I think as time passes, your symptoms will subside.

            •  We had a delightful time (0+ / 0-)

If it was representative of a typical, random gathering of dkos regulars, all I can say is that we are a very diverse and talented group.

In attendance were :  SundayHighway and her very nice Republican father, pico, bigbenbob, luckydog, NOGoddess and her husdband and docciavelli and his wife.  We stayed and chatted for a couple of hours of stimilating conversation.  NOGoddess took a picture and hopefully she'll diary it.

              •  Thanks for the reply (0+ / 0-)

Hopefully in the the future I can join the company.  I could have been company for SundayHighway's dad.  LOL!  The one thing that binds us all is our complete love of the city and its culture.  We are both warriors for its defense and survival.  New Orleans lives!  I look forward to the pictures.

from the mental inability to rationalize your fear that you can be propelled, without warning, into a totally different state of reality? Like from the reality of knowing that a solid bridge is always there to a new, sudden reality that the solid bridge is simply gone?

I had the same thing going when I travelled from Texas to Panama. I never knew whether there was a street behind the next curve - or just a giant hole of such a size capable to swallow up an entire trailer truck.

The closest it gets here, with regards to the reality/sudden different reality thing, (where I live in Europe) is this - during the winter:

30 secondes later the street is almost gone

now the street is gone - the world has lost its shape

          •  No, I think it has its root in lose of control. (0+ / 0-)

I very much like control and Katrina has shot that concept out of the picture.  I know the bridge is not going anywhere.  I fear that I will pass out and lose control of the car and go over the edge.  And it is only going up the bridge.  Going down is fine.  If I can see the horizon I am fine.  That is one of the reasons night worries me.  Your post may speak though to the realization that the world I thought I lived in (a country that cared for its citizens and would be there to support its own) is in truth what is not the reality.  That is the falsehood.  We are only there for ourselves, our country of New Orleans.

    •  Aw, c'mon (0+ / 0-)

      we'll walk you home.  :-)
