Apparently Tony Snow has taken a few days off between Christmas and New Year's (God knows lying to the entire world can be hot work!) and left White House Communicatering to the interns.
The thing about interns is often they are bright and creative and equally often they are total freakin' pinheads without a clue. Which this is I don't know yet - but as far as moving the National Discourse Through the Looking Glass - well . . . READ ON!
As White House spokersperson Frances Fragos Townsend explained to CNN's White House correspondent Ed Henry last night, the White House does not view its inability to capture 9/11 Terror Mastermind Osama bin Laden in the 5 years since al-Qaeda's attack on the World Trader Center and the Pentagon as a failure - it is merely a success that has not happened YET.
As TPMmuckraker reports, Ed Henry said:
You know, going back to September 2001, the president said, dead or alive, we're going to get him. Still don't have him. I know you are saying there's successes on the war on terror, and there have been. That's a failure.
And Fragos Townsend - in a moment of ecstatic inspiration - shot back:
Well, I'm not sure -- it's a success that hasn't occurred yet. I don't know that I view that as a failure.
